Optimistic Hoarder: Update 001

Optimistic Hoarder Header with a retro 1970's design

Processing and writing while actively going through my mother’s things became unsustainable, so I stepped back from this newsletter while we continued to go through what we had of hers here at our place. As of this past Saturday, we have mostly completed this process. Every box, bin, and luggage has been opened. Much has been thrown away. There is a massive amount of mail, paperwork, receipts, and ephemera to look through and as I eye our very small and fragile paper shredder, I imagine I’ll be researching someplace that will take shredding to do in bulk.

I have so many wonders and horrors to share with you in future issues. I took copious notes as we went through each box. I still do not yet have a cadence in mind for this newsletter, but I will leave you with this photograph:

Multiple items on green towels: a pile of assorted coins, a plastic kimchi bucket half-full of assorted coins and lid, a four ounce glass jar of just quarters with a gold lid, a rectangular plastic bin with a broken glass salsa jar and bits of glass.

Thank you for being here. You can find previous issues of Optimistic Hoarder in the archive. Documenting things like this helps me process the experience and the memories, both good and bad. I do not promise any sort of consistency with this newsletter and it’s free so, them’s the breaks. Also, these pieces are not heavily edited so if you catch something, no you didn’t.

Consider buying me a coffee. I’m gonna need it. And you can find my other work here.
