openwashdata news

September is here! We prepared new (qualitative) datasets, attended World Water Week, and expanded the community! Find where we are if not in front of computers hacking R.

Highlights

🎙️first qualitative data package released!

Do you know people that work with qualitative data (e.g. semi-structured interviews)? Have you ever talked to them about publishing their data (transcripts)?

Ask them what they think of this: https://openwashdata.github.io/biogasoutcomesmalawi/ and leave the thoughts to ghe@mavt.ethz.ch!

We have gone through the process of anonymisation, converting .docx files to .md (markdown) files, and then publishing the transcripts, as well as a table format of the data that is accessible as CSV, XLSX and our favourite R package format.

🌱community is growing

We are happy to see the expanding of the openwashdata community after launch:

  • 9 people joined our community chat
  • 24 people signed up for the newsletter
  • 2 new datasets are published

Besdies, we are working on a few others to be published soon. Topics include data for:

  • an analysis of the suitability of container-based sanitation in Haiti
  • an assessment of global demand for different methods of faecal sludge emptying
  • weekly volumes of water pumped for hand pumps in Kenya

Contributor of the Month

Do you know how much we need for emptying sanitation service? Sarah Hennessy (GitHub, ORCiD), Nicola Greene, Tate W. Rogers, Jocelyn Tsai, and Francis L. de los Reyes III share their wonderful data that covers 175 countries and 722 million household level sanitation facilities in openwashdata!👏 Thank you all this collaboration!
