Open Thoughts
Hi Friends!
I just finished a month of silence where I didn’t listen to content in my alone time (ie, listening to music or audiobooks, watching videos with sound, etc.) As I’ve been reading Jack Whitten’s Notes from the Woodshed, I grew a big desire to be alone with my thoughts when I work in the studio. I had a rule that I could listen to things with other people, and funny enough, I found myself spending a lot of time with people to get my “entertainment fix” and not as much time in the studio…(but I was travelling!)… So it did something. Haha. But I have felt more mentally clear and less socially drained, which is good!
Over the past few months, I have been co-organizing a show with Brian Jucas titled Your Name Spelled in Soap, which will open Friday, February 13th, from 6-10 pm at Patient Info! It’s a show so close to my heart! It will feature work you can wash your hands with, be sonically immersed in, and take home to use.

The name for the show came after many artists talked about regifting objects and creating worlds/sites for the works. The name references George Maciunas’ work, Your Name Spelled in Objects, made during the Fluxus movement. George would send a box of objects for each person to arrange and create their own lexicon from second-hand goods.

I got giddy when the artists in the show talked about displaying work in the corners of rooms, in secret closets, or consuming the furniture of the old dermatology office. I think, in many ways, the work will grow, shift, and break down in the space, especially on the night of the opening!
I hope to see Chicago friends at the show! I’ll be around the whole night, sipping on seltzer water. :)
Other than that, life is life-ING. I’ll write more soon.
Loads of love,
