Open Thoughts

I’ve been so happy lately. I’ve been feeling hot & free!

This is the first time in a while that I am neglecting the prospects of love and taking big steps towards my dreams. Idk why, but it took me a moment to realize I have to do my own thing…. but hey…. I’m young. I have been spending a bunch of time in the studio, and it has felt soooooooo good! I have also been seeing angel numbers everywhere!

Here is a recap of the things I did since my last newsletter. THIS IS AN IMAGE-FORWARD READING for all of my pals!

I celebrated my birthday with my closest friends & we went night swimming!

★

I had the kite show!!!

rockstar Hai Wen Lin and their big kite!

★

I took myself on a holy pilgrimage to Wisconsin to see the Dickeyville Grotto & Shrines, Dr.Evermores Foreverton, and the Kohler Arts Preserve & spend some time camping!

Here are some big things I am doing right now:

  • Co-curating a show where visitors will wash their hands with artist-made soap sculptures. I am working on it with Brian Jucas & it will take place at Patient Info (a dermatology office turned gallery) in February.

  • Applying to grad school in Switzerland in March! (This is the crazy one.)

  • Working on electronic sound sculptures with Zaira Castillo - I’m dreaming of a bunch of small singing copper baskets.

  • Working on getting the kites from the past two years of UP & UP exhibited in a brick & mortar space for at least a few weeks.

  • Finishing up two large projects for my portfolio - featuring masticated bread, gum, bloodmeal, soap, and thoughts on erroticism, cannibalism, and mastication & bathing being the most intimate ways of interacting with the politics of material cultures

Also, many wild things are happening in Chicago right now. ICE is here and all over the city. I work with kids, and there have been reports of ICE making their way to public schools. Many students and families I know are scared to leave their homes. I don’t know what else to say besides this is fucked up, and to help where you can. I’ve been staying away from watching the videos, and I’ve been listening to Geese’s new album on repeat, and I think that has helped my sanity.

Take care, my friends! Stay safe out here.

Christina
