★★★★★ · Historical landmark
It's an ancient well, fed by springs, and is believed to have healing powers. In the middle ages St. Dyfnog’s well became a place of pilgrimage and healing in the sixth century Dyfnog did penance here by standing in the well. The well was once the most visited well in Wales.
There is an ancient tradition that all visitors must bathe in the well,
so bring your swimming costumes. SORRY - strike that !! simply one of Charles' insane jokes !!
There are three places to visit;
1. St Dyfnog's well, a short walk, three minutes away.
2. the Church's famous (and priceless) Jesse Window - there are only a number of these windows in existence.
Jesse Trees, a lineage of ancestry, are based on a passage from the Book of Isaiah.
"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots"
"The medieval parish church of St Dyfnog contains a Tree of Jesse window, dating from 1533, described as "the finest glass window in all Wales, exceeded by few in England",[4] which was originally part of Basingwerk Abbey near Holywell. Nearby is St Dyfnog's Well, once a destination for pilgrims.[5]
3. The Anvil Pottery, situated opposite the church in the old smithy. The workshop is open to public view. (and Sheila knows the potters quite well.)
The Kings Head pub is opposite the church where you can be assured of a warm welcome. Family friendly, and serving good pub food on Saturday at 12noon.
