Transgenre Books / Rigby's Author Newsletter - A Soft Return and Change in Focus
Hello Old Friends,
It's the winter solstice, which means that it's time for new beginnings. When I took a break from writing my newsletter back in August 2022, I thought it would just be a month or two as I recovered from surgery. However, the same tensions that pushed me to start a newsletter (a retraction from the public-facing internet in general, an uncertainty of what I wanted to contribute to the noise of the internet, and a general lack of free time. After taking time to think about what I want to do, I've decided it's time to bring back my lil newsletter.
At the very least, this is a good place to keep up with what I'm doing professionally. Hopefully, it'll also include some thoughts on the State We're In. Often, what I want to talk about isn't something that I want to broadcast to internet strangers, or even something that I feel I can talk about in a character limit. Yes, I know character limits make people better writers. No, I don't think I can talk about how I think about my graduate education and its lessons stay with me everyday as I move through the world.
I chose Old Growth Futures as my new name because I think it represents what I want to think about. Old growth is vital to our ecosystem. However, once it's gone all we can do is plan what we'll want to build on for the future and start growing. Maybe what I'm building today will make someone's life better for tomorrow. That's what I hope for, at least.
If you decide not to stick around, I understand! I wish you the best, truly. If you do, well, thank you.
Happy Solstice.
Yours,
Rigby
