I’ve known taehee for the past five years, I’m a huge fan of their work— they have a boundless creativity and sense of play in their art, and it’s been an honor growing with them and finally getting to collaborate with them on this music video (they also designed the album release show poster, get your tickets here march 28 lol). give taehee a piece of paper and pencil, or a laptop or a risograph print machine or 3d scanner they’ll make something insane and brilliant.

Not only is the music video gorgeous but there’s like thoughts behind it, you can read their artistic statement below:

Director’s statement by taehee

Ohyung’s “I Swear That I Could Die RN” is about queer euphoria in rave spaces. In the rave space, blurred by strobing lights and other bodies, bliss shines within you. That same bliss got me thinking about how we discuss transition timelines in the trans community—often as a clean break between before and after. The music video’s concept is an ode to both the past self and the ideal future, guiding us to our queer euphoria.

I don’t see transition as a binary experience—not only in relation to my own body but also in terms of grieving and leaving the past behind. I personally don’t want to consider my past self as “dead.” Some might not feel this way, and we are all entitled to decide our relationship with our pre-transition self, especially in a society that constantly invalidates our existence based on our assigned gender at birth. Dead or alive, day or night—transition transcends this division. How can you divide sunrise or sunset?

The biggest challenge was conveying the music video’s concept—the nuanced dynamic between the past and future self—without using text while still leaving it open to interpretation. Water, represented through the water suit and floating teardrops, became a key metaphor for this fluidity. It embodies both the overwhelming sensation of drowning and the cathartic release that comes with letting go.

The music video is about that push and pull, like how the heart takes the shape of a spiral. Each end of the timeline is molding and shaping the other. How our spiraling bodies exist in support of one another, arriving at queer euphoria—at transcendence.

Thank you again for listening and following along. I have a lot more thoughts to share and I promised many of you a studio tour which is coming soon along with other things.
