Dear reader,
I’m announcing my next record, IOWA, which will be coming out March 6th. The first single, all dolls go to heaven, is available for streaming today.

I’m sorry I haven’t updated my newsletter subscribers on my work as often as I’d like to, and I aim to do better this year. I want to write more. In the past half year a lot has happened; I’ve had two films I scored, Happyend and Sorry, Baby come out and travel around the world. I got married. I had a major surgery. I also released a remix record for You Are Always On My Mind featuring some of my favorite underground New York techno and electronic music producers. There you’re caught up. :)
In the backdrop of all of this I have been sitting on a record. Rewind to 2024, I’m living in Iowa and listening to Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. It’s a gorgeous, lo-fi folk record. The cover, however, evokes what I imagine should be a dark ambient record. I imagined as a joke making a dark ambient record with a very similar cover, and call it OHYUNG’s IOWA— the asian transsexual ambient Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.
And so here we are— what started out as a joke for myself has become a very personal hour long record that marks a very special time in my life, when I lived in the midwest for 11 months and, as my friend put it, uncoiled. I’ll be rolling out a few songs before the 3/6 release date. On 3/6, I’ll be having a release show at Stone Circle Theater in Ridgewood featuring YATTA, Bitepoint (DJ), and doing a set featuring my dancer and performance artist Jas Lin.
Tickets available here, $25 (if you cannot afford please message me for discount)

The record is getting a gorgeous vinyl release thanks to Trans Music Archive. I cannot thank Ariel and Rowan enough in their support making this happen.

I plan on updating everyone more on the newsletter, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the first single from the record. Mommy is back and she will deliver.
Love,
Lia
