Octopus Thoughts: How Mic Drop gets made, new features, a big move, and a new app in the works
Welcome to our first-ever newsletter! I drafted a long and wordy newsletter, but Matt was convinced that no one reads their email and it would just get sent to the bin—so we're not exactly sure of the format we'd like to use just yet. For now, I'm going to keep it as short & sweet as possible, even though it goes against all of my base instincts. 😉
We'd ❤️ your feedback. What are you interested in hearing from us? Would you prefer a more abbreviated "here's what we're up to" point-form format, or is something more conversational better? Please do feel free to drop us a line—all responses go right to our inboxes, and we'd love to hear from you.
What we're up to
🎤 Mic Drop got a mention on MacRumors, which was super exciting! It meant we were able to send £667.60 (that's 50% of our sales thus far) to the Scottish Women's Aid, who are still experiencing unprecedented demand as vulnerable women are disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic. ✊🏻 Matt wrote about building Mic Drop on our blog, which is worth a read if you're curious about the technical side of what goes into making an app.
💎 We've been working on some improvements to the status window in Mic Drop—coming soon to an app near you! If you've been using it and would like to share your feedback, we'd love to hear from you! Send us a message ([email protected]) and let us know what you think.
⏰ Because we had so much fun building Mic Drop, we're building another menu bar app for your Mac. This one's a timer app, for freelancers and other people who need to track the time they spend working on projects. It's currently especially designed for users of FreeAgent, but we're planning other integrations and a standalone version as well. We don't quite have the details of the beta programme worked out just yet, but if you're interested in testing it out, send us an email and we'll hook you up.
Keep on truckin'! 🚚
