Occasional Puzzles - 📆 Dizzying Days

You and seven friends have booked a “spooky” themed Airbnb in the woods for a cozy fall getaway. When you booked, you figured the hosts meant a secluded place with some witchy vibes, but things are actually…weird here. You drove twenty miles along a dirt road to get to the house but, when you looked at your watch, you realized it only took six minutes. From the outside, the house looked like a single story, yet inside it somehow has two flights of stairs. And you could have sworn you woke up in a different bedroom than the one you went to sleep in.

Today's Puzzle - 📆 Dizzying Days

You come downstairs on what you think is checkout day only to find that your friends are packing up for a walk in the woods, seemingly unaware that it’s time to head home. Upon questioning, it turns out that everyone is a little confused about what day it is. Each friend makes a claim:

  1. The day after tomorrow is Wednesday.

  2. Wednesday is today.

  3. Wednesday is tomorrow.

  4. Today is not Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

  5. Yesterday was Thursday.

  6. Yesterday was Tuesday.

  7. Yesterday was not Saturday.

Only one of them is right. So, what day is it?

Puzzle

Your puzzle-loving friend had you over for dinner back in February, and now it’s your turn to host. Brace yourself: she cheerfully informs you that she’s now following a special new diet. Her dietary restrictions may not be medically grounded, but she assures you she’s following some kind of logic.

  • She’ll eat mayonnaise but not mustard

  • She’ll drink coffee but not tea

  • She’ll eat sriracha but not aioli

  • She’ll eat tomatoes but not radish

  • She’ll eat margarine but not butter

Can you figure out what governs her culinary decisions?

Solution [SPOILER]

Your friend will only eat foods that have two sets of repeated letters!
