I’m writing this on a wet June day on the coast of BC. Thankful for the patter of rain drops, even if it makes my toes cold. I’ve got the summer heat anxiety hard this year, and in just a couple weeks I’ll be packing my bags to drive out to the thick of it in Saskatchewan.

The past few months I have been dedicated to the easel for my two shows in July (remind me never to say yes to two shows at the same time again, I’m knackered). It’s been grinding and exhausting to balance with the rest of life, but I am really proud of the pieces I have made. I’m nervous too, often I share what is on my easel right away, but I have been holding these ones close to my chest, waiting for them to be together in my studio before flying out into the world.

I will be sharing more about each painting as I have time leading up to the show that opens in July, either here or some free posts on Patreon. If you are in the southwest of Saskatchewan in July and August you will be able to see my paintings along side my mother’s in person for the Small Song show at the Jasper Centre in Maple Creek.

And if oil portraits are more of your jam, I will be hanging a few pieces for the From Selfies to Art show with 4 other artists at the Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre in Shaunavon SK.

Things I’ve Found Interesting Lately
On The Trail - Some Canadian journalism by Isaac Peltz that I have been enjoying, like this article about proportional representation being the solution to separatism
Justine Doiron’s recipes - I’ve been having a delicious time trying out Justine’s recipes and finding ones that use up whats in my cupboard and fridge. I’m particularly hooked on her Salted Date and Browned Butter Carrot Bread
On the topic of food, Last Meals is a fun youtube series I often put on while working. The episode with Simone Giertz was one of my favourites, but they are all so good.
Reading has taken a back seat recently, but if you want something queer and silly, I just listened to the audio book Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die, and it was a fun good laugh.
