Bronwyn Schuster's Artist Notes: A bear wakes from her slumber
March art rambles and shop update.
Ramblings Post Hibernation

After a very busy winter market season, and navigating a postal strike that shut down my other well laid plans, I chose to go into a deep creative slumber and rest. Only now, in the past 3 weeks or so, have the creative muses come flying back. (a coincidence that it coincides with this Pacific Northwest spring? And joining a group of folks who have been working our way through the book The Artist’s Way?)

For the first time I have begun to enjoy journaling. After years of it being a torturous exercise that I quickly dropped, something shifted and now I greedily make time for it every day. It helps that I mostly fill it full of silly drawings and clippings of things that make me go “oooooh”

I won’t share much more of the book right now. It has been novel and nice to have something that is private and just mine. Growing up in the social media culture (deviantart, tumblr, myspace, instagram, etc) and selling my art from a very young age, has meant that I thrust almost everything I made into the public eye immediately. To be judged, consumed, and to find praise. Now as I am less than a week away from the tender age of 33, I realize the value in letting some art be secret. Some writing to be just for me. Private little delights that need no external validation. They bring me contentment and joy just for the sake of creating.
That said, I would like to introduce you to some of the sillier beings that have cropped up in my daily scribblings. The Radiant Bastards!

These wonky troublesome fellas just make my day every time they show up.

Things to Share
I’ve been following YK Hong for a while, and they’ve been releasing video guides on de-googling your life. It’s a thing that has been on my mind to do, and I am taking time over the next few months to switch over where I can. If you are worried about tech monopolies and how they sell and use your data, I highly recommend checking out some of Hong’s suggestions!
Books I have been reading! A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark, I Will Be More Myself in the Next World by Matsuki Masutani, Tao Te Ching: A New English Version by Ursula K. Le Guin, and I just started I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin.
