If you follow a topic on X, try asking your Bot to build a private List or find live Spaces on it: a SpaceXSI staff member says both now work in Grok Bot. Also inside: what to do if your Bots vanished after the switch to The X Subscription, plus everything that went up on the site since Monday's email, including the Grok Bot 0.71.2 notes and the iPhone Action Button. There was no Oct 20 issue because our desk was down, and this email is late for the same reason.

Grok Bot can now find X Spaces and manage your X Lists (confirmed, staff)

What happened: Paul Vann, whose X bio reads "@spacexsi & @x api," posted at 7:26 PM ET Tuesday: "we heard you, and launched @X spaces & lists in @bot!" He added: "want to find a space to listen on? ask @bot! want to manage your lists? ask @bot!" In the 39-second demo video in his post, a Bot answers "show me some of the most popping spaces on X right now" with a short list of live Spaces and their listener counts, and when asked to pull the lists he's a member of, it names them and sums up their top recent posts. Justin Fredette, who says in his bio that he tests AI tools, posted at 8:23 AM ET today that "your bot can now find X Spaces and manage your X Lists."
Who's affected: Grok Bot users who follow topics or people on X. Vann didn't say which plans get it or whether you need to connect your own X account.
Why it matters: Our read: Lists are the easiest way to follow one topic on X, but building one by hand means a lot of profile clicking. Asking a Bot to do it takes one message. Spaces search helps you find live audio on a topic without scrolling. Reads can cost X credits: at the end of the demo, the Bot reports that "Those two reads cost about $0.30 of your $58.18 in X credits." That text is in the video, not the post, and Vann didn't say how pricing works.
What to do:
- Ask in plain words. Fredette's suggestion, from his post: "Make me a private X list called AI builders and add these accounts."
- For Spaces, name a narrow topic. Fredette wrote that his Bot searched Spaces for "AI" and "25 came back, lots of them crypto. Be specific."
- A prompt to paste (ours, untested):
Find live or scheduled X Spaces about AI agents for small business this week, and list the host, time and link for each.
No changelog line or help page yet: the changelog still ends at 0.71.2 from Oct 14 and doesn't mention Spaces or Lists. We haven't tried it. Our Bot's X access didn't offer Spaces or Lists when we checked at 2:17 PM ET.
What to watch: whether Spaces and Lists show up in the next Grok Bot release notes, and whether a help page says what access they need.

What's new
There was no Oct 20 issue because our desk was down. The Grok Bot changelog ends at 0.71.2, dated Oct 14, with no Spaces or Lists line as of 2:17 PM ET. (confirmed)
Bots vanished after the X Subscription switch? Staff say they're safe (Grok Bot · confirmed, staff; tracked)
Seven forum users say their Bots disappeared after moving to The X Subscription, including people on Premium and Ultra. Cursor staff member mohitjain said at 4:48 AM ET: "your Bots aren't gone." He explained: "During the switch to The X Subscription they can end up on a different account than your plan, so one side shows your plan with no Bots and the other shows your Bots but asks you to subscribe." His steps: "please don't reset your Bot computer, delete anything, or buy a second subscription"; then "fully sign out of Grok Bot everywhere (the app and grok.com), then sign back in using the same method you used when you created the Bots"; if they're still missing, "send a note to [email protected] with the email on your account." Signing out doesn't fix every case: the first poster said "the bots are still missing" after trying it. "It's an issue we're tracking," mohitjain said, with no fix date. Read the full story
Since our last email
These went up on the site after Monday's 8:32 AM ET email.
Grok Bot
- Grok Bot 0.71.2 notes: 20 files per message, 1 GB videos, desktop alerts (Grok Bot · release · confirmed). The changelog now has notes for 0.71.2, dated Oct 14 but posted Monday afternoon, so these aren't new features that day. "One message can carry up to 20 attachments instead of 6," with a 200 MB total per message, files up to 250 MB and videos up to 1 GB; and "While you use Grok Bot on a Mac or Windows PC, Bot replies and questions notify you there instead of your phone." The file-size and notification changes say "Requires Grok Bot 0.70.2 or later," so open Settings, go to Updates and choose Check for Updates. Story
- Press your iPhone's Action Button to talk to your Grok Bot (Grok Bot · feature · confirmed by the company, steps reported). The official Grok Bot account posted at 2:40 PM ET Monday: "Set it as your iPhone's Action Button and press it to talk with Bot." SpaceXSI hasn't published steps; a fan account, DogeDesigner, posted these: "Settings → Action Button → Shortcut → Choose a Shortcut → Search “Grok Bot” → Select “Start voice chat”". Nobody has said which app version adds the action, so update the app first. Story
- Bots show no usage after a half-finished X Subscription switch (Grok Bot · known issue · confirmed, staff; tracked). If the account that holds your Bots suddenly shows no included usage while your SuperGrok plan is still active, kevinn said: "It's a known issue we're tracking, and it doesn't clear up on its own." He asked people "please don't buy a second plan on the other account or keep retrying the switch," and to "Email [email protected] with every email address you use for Cursor, Grok and Grok Bot" plus a screenshot of the account and plan Grok Bot shows. Story
- One user lost files when their computer was replaced (Grok Bot · known issue update · confirmed, staff; one user's report). Colin said at 4:30 PM ET Monday that a user's computer was replaced automatically on Oct 17 and "the replacement went ahead without first saving your latest files, so the new computer was restored from a much older copy." He wrote: "We’ve since fixed this on our side: a computer is no longer replaced automatically unless its latest files have been saved first." If Update keeps saying your computer's files aren't ready, copy anything you can't lose off the computer. Story
Workflows and Setup of the day
Grok Bot for creators: six read-only Bots that watch an X audience (Grok Bot · reported, self-reported)
Who runs it: Glenn Williams (@GlennHasABeard), whose bio reads "Video art made with generative AI." On Oct 18 he posted: "This weekend I set up six bots for my content business. Claude wrote the scripts and Grok Bot runs them on a schedule." Asked how he gets them to post, he replied "I don't want it to post on my behalf".
Tools and triggers: X API access (he doesn't say if it's the X plugin or his own keys) and a private Cloudflare page where the Bots post their outputs. Six scheduled Bots: Headcount (once a quarter), Creator Scout (every morning), Shoutout Desk (every Monday), Mention Radar (twice a day), Warm Leads (no schedule given) and Rerun Picker. For Rerun Picker he explained: "Anything at 1.5x my normal or better qualifies, as long as it's at least 3 weeks old. Anything I've quoted in the last 60 days sits out."
Result, in his words: "so far my morning routines have gone off perfectly" (reply). It's his claim, two days old, with no results yet.
Cost and risk: He puts it at "All six together run about $30 a month in API credits." Our math, from X's pricing page: a full quarterly Headcount over his followers and the accounts he follows is about $97, or roughly $32 a month on its own, so count your followers before you schedule one.
Set it up (these steps are ours, built from his posts and the docs):
- Pick one job, not six. Rerun Picker is the easiest first Bot, because it only reads your own posts and their views.
- Decide what it can read. Built-in X reads are read-only; for DMs, bookmarks, your home timeline or who liked your posts, you add the X plugin and sign in with X.
- Write the read-only rule into the job: the Bot never posts, replies, likes, follows or sends messages.
- Keep the history in a log file the Bot reads and updates.
- Make it a routine and test it.

Coming up
From the week in review and this week's stories. Everything here is announced, hinted or scheduled, not shipped.
On the calendar
- Oct 22: OpenAI DevDay Exchange in Seoul, by application (event page). (scheduled)
- Oct 23: OpenAI API shutdowns.
gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-4, o1, o3-mini, o4-mini and others shut down that day (deprecations). If a Bot or script calls one, switch it now. (scheduled)
Confirmed, no date
- A prompt link that opens a Bot with your text typed in. Colin said it's coming in an upcoming update, and "The message is filled in but never sent automatically." (story)
- A fix for Bots missing after the switch. For one user, mohitjain said putting the Bots back "needs a fix on our side." No fix date.
Early signals (unverified)
- Spaces and Lists in the release notes. Watch whether they show up in the next Grok Bot changelog, and whether a help page says what access they need. (open question)
- Action Button details. Watch for a help page or changelog entry, a way to pick the Bot the button calls, and whether Android gets something similar. (open question)
- Phone app file limits. The 0.71.2 notes don't say whether the phone app gets the bigger attachment limits. (open question)
