NYC TPHH Feb. 20 6-8 and other announcements
Hi All,
The February edition of the NYC Tech Policy Happy Hour will be next week Thursday the 20th, from 6-8pm at Vol de Nuit. As ever, we hope to see old friends and new!
We also have a few announcements from our community. First a job announcement for any upcoming/recent law school graduates! The Policing Project has opened hiring for a litigation fellow to join their litigation team starting this summer. The fellow will work on impact litigation to bring greater democratic accountability to policing, and to limit police discretion that gives rise to discrimination. The team often works closely with the Policing Project’s tech team (where Jesse works) and is actively pursuing cases related to ALPRs and other surveillance technology.
Next, we want to highlight some writing from one of our friends! One of our former community members who has sadly left us for Boston to pursue a PhD at Harvard wrote a nice blog post on warrant canaries and security theater. It’s a nice little read with insights for technologists trying to navigate the nuances of law and policy.
Finally, the CFPB has recently started hosting a monthly tech policy coffee gathering. For those who can’t make a happy hour, this is great opportunity to connect! If you’re interested in joining, please email Jesse for the connect.
That’s all, see you next week!
Jesse and Maia
