Why We Wrote This Article: Sparking the idea for this article, NTS NEWS came across an official McDonald’s advertisement, but graffitied on top of the advertised sandwich was one word: poison.
After months of intricate research and trips, NTS NEWS is presenting an article that we’ve been studying for weeks: The McDonald’s Rebellion. We’ll take a look into some of the crazy things people are doing to try and stop McDonald’s unthinkably unhealthy menus. Take an informative delve into the side-effects that McDonald’s’ food has, plus the negative toll it takes on the planet.
PART 1: McDonald’s’ Addicting Food
McDonald’s is a popular lunch, dinner and sometimes breakfast option across the world. From juicy burgers to perfectly crisp chicken nuggets, it’s hard to say no to someone who suggests it.
Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds, was immensely smart and tactical within the food business. Starting a company that uses expensive, high-quality ingredients and has minimal levels of unhealthiness is extremely hard to expand and capture the attention of consumers. That’s where the idea for an oily, irresistible fast food chain came to mind: it could make millions of dollars daily once it grew big enough, and it was very cheap to manage. This idea was extremely successful, and today McDonald’s is a multi-billion dollar company, and is often the dinner, lunch and breakfast for millions of people.
This is the problem with humans: if something looks good, tastes good and is unbelievably cheap, our minds automatically are drawn to these deals. No matter how much McDonald’s’ food is like poison, no matter how many mind games McDonald’s plays and no matter how too-good-to-be-true their food is, resistance is almost impossible.
This brings us onto the next part of our article: rebellion and analysis.
PART 2: Rebellion & Analysis
First, we’re diving into a detailed analysis to prove just how much havoc a McDonald’s meal will wreak within your body.
The average McDonald’s meal, which usually consists of a burger, fries and a milkshake, has been tested in many labs and universities, with almost all of them reaching the same conclusion: there’s not just one or two drastic side effects, but rather an entire timeline full of them.
According to The Sun and other sources, these side effects occur every few hours after eating McDonald’s. In just fifteen minutes, your blood sugars will spike up, as a result of the combination of the milkshake, burger and salty fries. Fifteen minutes after that, it’s not unlikely that you’ll be parched and dehydrated. Wait another twenty minutes, and you might become very lethargic after the sudden sugar rush. After about an hour, hunger will begin; since McDonald’s is just chemicals, oil and a slab of meat, your body will want something that carries some form of nutrients.
In other words, McDonald’s should not become a regular part of your diet. Unfortunately, not many care or have the time or the education to collect information about unhealthy foods, so their body is overloaded with food that will devastate some of the most important parts of the body.
Some people, who’ve almost trained their minds to avoid all temptation for McDonald’s food, have been rebelling against their “inedible” and “body-destroying*” meal options.
Taking a look in regions of England, we can see multiple forms of rebellion: silent rebellion and active rebellion.
Silent rebellion has taken on one main form in this case: advertisements. Researchers and marketers opposing the idea of ultra-processed food chains have imitated McDonald’s’ advertisements - this includes the iconic logo and bold text - but with a different message to try and raise awareness for some of the alleged things they have done.
Although this is done to push McDonald’s to increase staff working wages, make its food healthier and use higher-quality ingredients, is it justifiable? McDonald’s isn’t saying that their food is healthy: their concept is an unhealthy yet delicious product for extremely low prices, so shouldn’t they be allowed to carry on? Is rebelling against the very core of their company a good way to raise awareness or an unfair attempt to ruin McDonald’s’ brand?
Below we have one of the advertisements that has been released into circulation:
Moving onto active rebellion, we’re about to investigate the main causes that have triggered multiple protests around the world.
Many unions and consumers have been protesting for months without end - like the anti-McDonald’s advertisement shown above says, they have been fighting to stop McDonald’s and make them pay for animal abuse, deforestation, multiple forms of pollution and more. Not only is it unhealthy, say protestors, but it is also meal by meal destroying our beloved planet.
To wrap up our article, we’ll end on a question. Is this rebellion we’re starting to see everywhere a good thing? Is it bringing McDonald’s to justice or just harassing the company? If you’d like your voice heard, be sure to vote below!
