Scrabble is a fun word game used in many play-for-fun and competitive instances, acting as a great word game for those of all ages to play. Lately, though, the internet has hindered people to play Scrabble the real way…
The internet was one of the best inventions on our planet - about 8.5 billion searches are put through Google every day. However, many experts and Scrabble-players have criticized it for ruining the classic experience that comes with playing Scrabble. This is because of online Scrabble dictionaries.
Sometimes, there are some words that nobody has ever heard of, but technically they’re still words. Very often, people enter random letter combinations and hope they are words: this can result in the final Scrabble board to be full of nonsensical words. For instance, “raggs” is a valid Scrabble word, and it’s a type of wool fiber. Without one of these online dictionaries, many would be discouraged to try and find it through a physical dictionary, as it’s very time-consuming.
What’s more, on the internet you can find many clever unscrambling programs, and sometimes they can allow players to cheat and find seven-letter words through the internet. This then defeats the point of playing, and can just result in a let-the-internet-do-everything situation.
However, if the use of the internet is banned during a scrabble game, it’s likely words like “raggs” will never show up, as they’re rarely part of common human knowledge.
