To enhance highway safety, Australia is going to introduce special glow-in-the-dark line markings on their main roads.
Tarmac Linemarking, in collaboration with Omni Grip and Vic Roads, first trialed their exclusive glow-in-the-dark line markings on some roads. Since then, the technology has become viral in Australia, receiving much praise and positive support.
Photoluminescence is the scientific element behind this program. The invention was based on kids’ stickers, using some of the same principals used for making the sticky pieces of paper. The technology is environmentally friendly: the stickers suck in sunshine during the day and emit the absorbed light as the sky grows darker.
John Emanuelli from Tarmac Linemarking said, “There’s been a lot of interest since the trial run, it’s a great product.”
This trial run is one of the 70 projects under a $4 million program, trying to create safe, innovative ideas.
It’s likely that these will soon become immensely popular, and more creations will start blooming by using photoluminescence. For more updates on news related to Science & Technology, make sure to repetitively check our website and your inbox!
