Weeknote 18th February 2024
Hello,
I've been trying to decide what to do with these weeknotes. I started them back in October 2023 as I wanted to write and publish again.
They started on my blog but as I started to share slightly more personal information I moved them to email. This mailing list isn't particularly large and is mostly friends and family so that feels right.
But they're beginning to feel like a time and attention distraction from my newsletter, Notes From Afar, that I'm planning to resurrect and develop.
My thinking is to keep this mailing list as it is and use it just for my weeknotes. As you all actually signed up for Notes From Afar, or its previous incarnations, I'll create a new list based on this and then hopefully grow that.
As for my weeknotes, I think I'll just send one when the week itself has been interesting.
Having said that and even though I hate 'streaks' and the gamification of everything I do feel loathe to break my weeknote 'streak' so I guess time will tell.
Right enough admin, here's a short weeknote.
Monday and Tuesday were typical work-from-home days.
On Wednesday I was in the office for a few meetings, on the walk from the station I took one of my favourite 366 photos so far.
Thursday evening my mother-in-law took the family out for a very pleasant dinner. Point a camera at my kids these days and this is what you get 😂
Friday morning I caught up with Richard and Simon for an All Flows meeting. All Flows 2024 is shaping up to be even better than 2023... get your ticket here.
Friday afternoon I had a hearing test as I've been struggling with my tinnitus recently. The test revealed that my hearing is actually pretty good apart from a dip at one point in the frequency range which had the audiologist asking if I worked with guns...
We had a fascinating conversation which helped me understand my hearing and tinnitus much better and led to me ordering a set of custom moulded musicians earplugs that will reduce the sound pressure entering my ears but still allow me to hear which means I can once more go to gigs!
I was delighted, for whilst the Chemical Brothers at Hammersmith Odeon were the straw that broke my hearing's back I've missed going to gigs so much. I'm really looking forward to being able to go with my kids as well, something I'd only just started doing when my tinnitus began.
This weekend was spent in London with my lovely wife as a slightly delayed Valentine's celebration. We stayed at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel, which has become a favourite for its incredible views over the Thames and London. During this stay, we were upgraded to a suite so we looked upriver towards Battersea for a change.
We once again headed over to Borough Market to try some of the stalls we didn't get to last time which included the most staggeringly delicious beef rendang I've ever tasted. A short interlude at the Rake pub and then back to the hotel followed by dinner at the Jolly Gardeners, one of our favourite London pubs.
I really felt good to be back in London once more and sitting overlooking the Thames whilst reading a Rivers of London series novel is a fun experience.
Until next time,
David
