First, a fundraiser: Pedal & Plate
Friday, October 24th • doors open at 5:30pm

World traveler and raconteur Willie Weir will headline our first fundraising dinner, Pedal & Plate, on October 24 at the Lake Ballinger Center in Mountlake Terrace. A former Adventure Cyclist columnist and public radio commentator, Weir has toured the world by bike and shares engaging, humorous stories about travel and the human condition—you don’t need to be a cyclist to enjoy his tales.
The evening features lasagne, salad, and dessert by caterer Jim Staigner, with admission including two drinks. Eleven Winery (Bainbridge Island) and Fremont Brewing are supporting the event with donations.
Proceeds will support North Sound Bicycle Advocates’ work to improve biking conditions in north King and south Snohomish counties. Tickets are $60, and available for purchase online.
☕ Coffee in the park
Saturday, Sept. 13 • 9am-10:30am • rides from Shoreline/Edmonds to Mathay-Ballinger Park

Local elected officials have been invited to join a community bike ride (and subsequent coffee-in-the-park event) to Mathay-Ballinger Park in Edmonds on September 13—and you’re invited too!
Groups will depart from Five Corners (Edmonds) and Shoreline City Hall at 9 a.m., meeting up at Mathay-Ballinger Park on 242nd Street, just off 76th Avenue.
The event offers a chance to hear about progress on the planned Interurban Trail bridge across SR 104, and highlight recent park improvements by the City of Edmonds.
Coffee (courtesy of Caffe Ladro) and pastries will be provided. Both rides will leave promptly, so please arrive a few minutes early.
🗳 Edmonds Proposition 1: bike impacts
Edmonds faces a financial crisis, and Proposition 1 (a levy lid lift) will appear on the November ballot. If approved by voters, the measure would allow the city to raise property tax revenue above the state’s 1% annual limit, preventing further cuts to services and staffing.
For North Sound Bicycle Advocates, the measure is especially relevant. Passage would allow Edmonds Public Works to take a stronger role in leading a study of potential routes for the proposed SR 104 Interurban Trail bridge. Mayor Mike Rosen has indicated support for the bridge and for the city to take the lead, subject to staffing capacity. The City of Shoreline already has staff advancing work on a pedestrian-bicyclist bridge over I-5 at 148th Street, near the Shoreline South light rail station.
🚴 Mountlake Terrace plans bike lane expansions
At an August 20 open house, Mountlake Terrace staff highlighted several upcoming bicycle improvements (MLTnews) as part of the City’s Transportation Impact Fee (TIF) program and Main Street Phase II project. Main Street Phase II would add bike lanes on 56th Avenue W between 236th and 230th Streets SW.

Proposed TIF-funded projects include buffered bike lanes on Van Ry Boulevard from Mountlake Drive to 244th Street SW, bike lanes on 56th Avenue W between 236th and 244th Streets SW, and a greenway/bike boulevard on 221st and 222nd Streets SW. These projects reflect the city’s shift toward a multimodal transportation system that better serves people walking, biking, and driving.
📝 Edmonds open house: Safety Action Plan
Wednesday, Sept. 10 • 6-7pm • online
On September 10, the City of Edmonds will host a virtual open house to share progress on its new Safety Action Plan, funded through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. The plan will use data, community input, and the Safe System Approach to identify strategies and projects that reduce serious injuries and fatalities for all roadway users.
Completing the plan will make Edmonds eligible for future federal funds to implement safety improvements. Community members are encouraged to attend, learn about the process, and provide feedback on locations where walking, biking, driving, or rolling feels unsafe.
NSBA September meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 17 • 6-7:30pm
Join NSBA for our September meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6-7:30pm at the Shoreline Library.
The meeting is open to all who are interested in our work to improve biking conditions and street safety in north King and south Snohomish counties.
