Come join in the weekly fun on NSBA’s Wednesday bike rides! The rides depart at 9:30am from in front of Edmonds City Hall. Routes vary, and will typically involve some hills (it's hard not to around Puget Sound!)

All trips involve a stop for coffee: destinations so far have included Blackbird Cafe in Richmond Beach, the Honey Bear Bakery in Lake Forest Park, Caffe Ladro in Lynnwood  and Il Viale in Edmonds.

Rides are typically 8-12 miles total, and will often include references to bike infrastructure in local communities that NSBA has or will be campaigning for. The rides proceed in light rain (no rides when persistent downpours, snow, ice or high winds are present.) Riders with electric bikes are welcome.

News

NSBA’s Peter Hallson honored with 2024 Doug Walker Award

NSBA’s Peter Hallson (pictured) was recently recognized with Cascade Bicycle Club’s Doug Walker Award, presented each year to an individual or organization that has shown leadership, vision and innovation in improving lives through bicycling.

This Cascade annual award is named in memory of Doug Walker, who was one of Seattle’s leading philanthropists, a strong supporter and advocate of bicycling, and the first recipient of the award.

“Peter was key to starting the Let's Go bicycle program in Edmonds and has been instrumental in ensuring funding continues for the program today … Thanks to Peter, bicycling in Edmonds, Shoreline, and Snohomish County is safer.”

– Laura Garner, Cascade Bicycle Club

Without Peter, there would truly be no NSBA: his hard work, wisdom, and passion for education keep us going. When you see a young person on a bike in the North Sound, know that Peter showed up along the way to make it possible.

Join us in congratulating Peter on this well-deserved honor! 💚🚲💙

Despite downpour, no dampened spirits at Shoreline bike tour

With the goal of exploring what Shoreline has accomplished on bike infrastructure, what it intends to do, and what it should address in the future, nineteen riders braved a drizzly recent Saturday on a 10-mile loop starting at the Shoreline Park & Ride.

The ride was co-organized by our friends at Urbanist Shoreline. “It was a great way of engaging folks on the role of bike advocacy, including some who have never been directly involved before,” said North Sound Bikes' Gordon Black. “Despite the rain, there was lots of enthusiasm.”

The route included a visit to the site of the planned bridge spanning Interstate 5 at 148th Street. When built, it will allow people who live west of I-5 to easily connect to the 148th Street/Shoreline South rail station.
