Cascade Bicycle Club: “Bike Everywhere Lunch”
Wednesday, April 30th • 11am-1pm
Cascade Bicycle Club is hosting their annual “Bike Everywhere Lunch” fundraiser on April 30th, just ahead of “Bike Everywhere Month” in May:
Join more than 400 bicycle advocates – from cargo bike commuters to the weekend century riders – at Cascade’s biggest fundraiser of the year. You will hear from educators, local leaders, and community members about the power of learning to ride.
Cascade educates kids, advocates for safer streets, and builds a strong biking community. This year, we have an ambitious goal: to teach bike skills to 70,000 kids across the state. Your support will fuel advocacy and community programs, so everyone has a safe place to ride and friends to share their journey.
Learn more about the lunch, and purchase tickets (starting at $25) at Cascade’s website.

Peter Hallson featured on front page of Edmonds Beacon

NSBA’s own Peter Hallson was the subject of this week’s cover story in the Edmonds Beacon, “Advocate works to make biking safer for all”. The article covers Peter’s longtime advocacy work in Edmonds, as well as his recent recognition with Cascade Bicycle Club’s 2024 Doug Walker Award.

NSBA advocates for better biking on future Poplar Way bridge in Lynnwood

NSBA recently sent a letter to the City of Lynnwood, proposing changes to improve and expand the bike facilities currently designed for the City’s Poplar Way extension bridge project.
This project, which is in the final stages of design, will build an arterial bridge to connect Poplar Way/196th St. SW and 33rd Ave West in Lynnwood. The bridge will pass over the Interurban Trail, and create an important E/W connection to a regional network.
Ensuring that bikers (and walkers) benefit from Everett Link extension

Planning is well underway for the planned extension of the Sound Transit light-rail line from Lynnwood to Everett. Although the 16-mile extension will not be completed for another 12 years at the earliest (2037) and more likely closer to 16 years, the transit organization board has already decided on two route options for each segment of the line. An example of a segment is from Lynnwood to Ash Way.
Of particular interest and concern to bicycle advocates are the potential construction impacts on the Interurban Trail where the rail line may occupy land adjacent to the existing trail, and to ensure that trail continuity and blockages can be addressed with community access funds set aside by Sound Transit.
There are three main areas where highways bisect the route of the trail: Maple Road; 164th Street SW; 128th Street SW. See the ST Everett Link engagement document for details of the transit agency’s route preferences and community process.
NSBA is leading an effort involving like-minded groups – including Sharing Wheels, BIKES Snohomish, Leafline and SnoTrac – to develop positions on the route alignments and will be pushing for use of funds to create easy bike access to the proposed stations and improvements to the Interurban route.
“Although the completion of the line is years away, it is critical that our voices be heard consistently now to influence decisions on station access and improvements to the Interurban Trail,” said NSBA vice president Gordon Black.
Bike advocates will be meeting in early April in Everett: a Sound Transit community outreach meeting is expected in May.
