July Community Ride this Sunday!
Hello, reader!
Before we get to the details of this month’s ride we have some exciting news to announce: Bike North Bergen and WeeBiken will be merging into one group upon the completion of this ride season in October.
The final name is still to be determined, but it will relate to our geography of North Hudson. We’ve decided to do this because our rides and advocacy never stay within any one town’s borders; this is a broader movement and we want our branding to reflect that. Don’t worry: we’ll still be putting on monthly rides and sending out the newsletter. The only thing changing is that WeeBiken’s newsletter and social media will be phased out, and Bike North Bergen will be taking on the new name on all social media platforms. So for all our WeeBiken subscribers who are not following Bike North Bergen, we encourage you to do so, as WeeBiken will stop posting completely after the last group ride. If you were on WeeBiken’s newsletter list, you have been automatically merged into this newsletter going forward.

New Bike Lanes on West New York’s Bergenline Avenue and Palisade Ave
We’ve been seeing new painted bike lanes installed on Bergenline and Palisade Avenue the last few weeks from the town of West New York. Both avenues now connect to the Union City bike lanes. These are major wins and we hope it is the first step before we see high quality protected bike lanes in the near future.

Comment on JFK Blvd East Braddock Park Improvement Plan

A safety improvement project is underway for this stretch inside Braddock Park. Modern roundabouts will be installed in two intersections to calm traffic and reduce crossing distance for pedestrians. The plan, however, lacks protected bike lanes along this stretch, which would reduce risk for people riding bikes inside the park.
