We're extending our proposal deadline until Friday August 16th!
Hello Pythonistas!
We’ve decided to extend our proposal deadline to Friday, August 16th, in order to make sure everyone can access our Office Hours (more on that below).
To help you craft the best possible proposals, we’ll be hosting Office Hours on our web chat or on IRC (#nbpy on irc.freenode.net):
-
Friday, August 9th at 3:00PM PT
-
Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00PM PT
-
Friday, August 16th at 3:00PM PT
If you can't make it to any of our scheduled office hours, you can email Sam, our program chair at program@northbaypython.org
For more information, and to submit a talk, visit northbaypython.org/speak.
Since we started North Bay Python, we’ve prided ourselves on providing meaningful, actionable, and personalized feedback to our prospective speakers, both before and after they submit their proposals.
Office Hours are a key part of achieving that. These are a chance for you to speak with a member of our program committee before submitting your talk, to bounce topic ideas off us, and to help refine your proposal to meet the needs of our audience.
Talks that have been workshopped through our Office Hours tend to get selected more often than talks that aren’t
We host our office hours in our IRC channel, and also provide a friendly web-based version so you don’t have to register for yet another chat service.
We discovered this week that an anti-spam measure we’d set up late last year had remained switched on, and was turning away all new users from our channel. This meant that casual IRC users, or users of our web chat, weren’t able to participate in our office hours. We discovered this far too late in our call for proposals to allow for meaningful access for everyone.
In order to make sure that everyone has equal access to feedback before they submit their proposal, we’ve extended our deadline by a week, to allow us to run two more office hours sessions.
We hope that this will make sure everyone has equitable access to feedback, and to ensure that everyone can submit the best possible proposals.
To those of you who’ve been working towards our original deadline: we’re deeply sorry. We don’t take the decision of extending our deadline lightly, but we’d be straying from our reputation for inclusivity if we'd knowingly excluded people from our feedback process.
We can’t wait to see you in one of our remaining Office Hours.
And if you want to skip ahead and submit a talk, visit northbaypython.org/speak.
