Onward into 2026 🐎

... or, "The Year of the Horse", as it is known here in Japan

Welcome to issue #4 of Everyday Journeys by Norbert Woehnl, your friendly photography newsletter from Japan.

I hope everyone has had a good start into the new year! Hopefully, most of your resolutions for 2026 (in case you made any) are still intact at this point.

On my side, I am hoping to do a short trip to Europe around the second half of May or early June-ish. Also, having noticed that my Mamiya 6 got almost no use in 2025, I'd like to shoot film more frequently again this year. And I want to keep up both the new hobby (learning how to play the drums) and the regular exercise (kickboxing) I started last year, as I have been experiencing a noticeably positive impact from both of these activities on my mental and physical well-being.

A selection of recent posts from my website

Welcome!

  • In Japan, it is customary to visit a shrine at the beginning of the new year. This time, we visited Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu already at the end of the old year, which gave us the advantage of beating the crowds, and enjoying a contemplative atmosphere (posted 2026-01-01).
  • I recently hit the milestone of 1,000 posts in the Singles section of my website. The post that made me reach that count features a night scene from Meguro, Tokyo (posted 2026-01-03).
  • It has been a while since I introduced a book from my photo bookshelf. This post is about Terra Magica by my friend, the renowned Turkish photographer İzzet Keribar (posted 2026-01-04).
  • Also, as suits the season, I published various winter photos recently, including this snowy scene from a forest in southwestern Germany, a winter view of Eggenberg Palace in Graz, Austria, featuring a peacock, and a Japanese hotel breakfast buffet in Nagano with a snowy city view through the window.
  • Lastly, I would like to present a cheerful street photo from Sugamo, Tokyo, of a little boy joyfully running beside his bicycling mother (posted 2026-01-10).

Evergreen content from my website

Welcome!

  • On the Finland leg of my previous trip to Europe in May 2024, I went to Suomenlinna sea fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about four kilometers southeast of the city center of Helsinki. (posted 2024-05-17).

That's all for this issue. Thank you for being a reader, and see you next time! If you'd like to get in touch, just reply to this email.

Best wishes from Tokyo -
Norbert
