Autumn Is Here 🍁
Some seasons are better than others.
Welcome to issue #1 of Everyday Journeys by Norbert Woehnl, your friendly photography newsletter from Tokyo. Thanks a lot to all my inaugural subscribers 😊.
Autumn has arrived in Japan, and while some Tokyoites have been too busy scrolling their smartphones to pick up on the change of season (or on anything else for that matter), the majority of folks are wholeheartedly embracing the pleasant daytime temperatures.
Now is also one of the most delicious times of the year, as fresh autumn produce like sweet potatoes, pumpkins, satoimo (taro root), kuri (Japanese chestnuts) and more is amply available to provide the distinctive taste of the season.
A selection of recent posts from my website
- Some years ago along the South Styrian Wine Route close to the Slovenian border in Austria, I took this photo of a bicyclist speeding through the autumn-colored vineyards (posted 2025-11-11).
- I work in a hybrid mode of telework and office days. Coming back from the office, I like to take night photos of calm Tokyo backstreets, like this recent set of images from the Hasunumacho district of Itabashi Ward (posted 2025-11-05).
- Enryakuji is a Tendai monastery located on Mount Hiei in Ōtsu, overlooking Kyoto. In this autumn scene, visitors are waiting at the belfry to ring the bell (posted 2025-11-06).
- Monochrome photo of a mid-day December street scene in Shimokitazawa, Setagaya, Tokyo, taken a couple of years back (posted 2025-11-03).
- While going to my recent drumming lesson, I discovered that the JR East Japan app now allows to collect digital Eki Stamps (posted 2025-11-08).
Evergreen content from my website
- Now is the perfect season to look back at an autumnal visit to Kamba Waterfall Park in Okayama Prefecture around 10 years ago. In addition to boasting the largest waterfall in western Japan, this park is also the habitat of some 200 wild monkeys (posted 2016-11-06).
Thank you for being here, and see you next time! If you'd like to get in touch, just reply to this email.
Best wishes from Tokyo -
