The Discipline of Being Earnest
Dear friends: I’m performing a bunch in June and this is your invitation to join me!
But briefly, first: this past weekend I set a goal of raising $1000 from personal asks to friends, family, and on social for a particular Gaza evacuation GoFundMe (there are so many, but this was the one I went with; it’s for a friend of a former teacher). Loved ones hit that goal in less than 24hr; I’ve currently tracked $1,250 from those asks. This is great - thank you to everyone receiving this who donated! However, the fundraiser itself still has a long way to go. Please donate to Fund Ahmed’s Family’s Journey to Safety if you can. And thank you, thank you, everyone who is organizing and showing the way on divestment, disruption, advocacy, direct aid, and so much more. May all peoples oppressed by the US war machine and colonial and capitalist powers be free in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, the US itself, and beyond.
DISCIPLINE at Steppenwolf LookOut, Wed. June 12, 8pm
Since spring 2022, I’ve been working on a new solo show that involves finding an extraterrestrial missive about the signs and sources of gender deviance in the dumpster out back of a top surgery office. DISCIPLINE is not that show! Secret surprises coming in 2025; like and subscribe for details babes. Instead, DISCIPLINE is an hour of material built from solo methods I’ve developed amidst that spacy solo process (as well as more broadly since my last solo guy, Small Boobs, back in 2018).
Or as I told the marketing form:
Nora Sharp's DISCIPLINE is a night of action, experimentation, and commitment to the bit. Blending comedy, choreo, confessional, criticality, and plenty of community too, DISCIPLINE embraces the perpetual motion of works in progress and the un-pin-down-ability of live performance.

Strawdog Theatre’s queer-Chicago-fied pride-month-ready rendition of Oscar Wilde’s classic play The Importance of Being Earnest is coming to Rivendell Theatre May 30 - June 30
…and I am performing in it as understudy for the role of Algernon. Whatever you’re thinking about that, I agree wholeheartedly! I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of this production. The whole team is so smart and invested and kind and FUNNY. The first rehearsal gave me that feeling I remember from my early years in Fly Honey, where I felt like I wanted to collaborate with everyone in the room for the rest of my life.
If you’d like to see me perform in Earnest, I’ll go on for sure June 1 (preview) and June 20 (understudy night) at 7:30pm each night.
But I totally encourage you to go anytime you can make it! In addition to the whole cast, Jack Seijo, who I’m understudying, is just fantastic. (He also teaches acting classes at The Forge, which I’ve taken and strongly recommend!)
The show runs Thurs - Sat at 7:30pm and Sun at 3pm from May 30 - June 30 at Rivendell Theatre, 5779 N. Ridge in Chicago. An excellent addition to your pride month plans. Swear to god I cackled the whole first read-thru.
Save the date + get your tickets soon.
I naturally understand that going to see someone perform twice in one month is a level of commitment generally reserved for one’s closest relations.* Or else we’re talking serious fandom, unabashed crushdom, or some motivation obligatory in vibe. But should you choose to come to Earnest on June 1, DISCIPLINE on June 12, Earnest on June 20, or, bless you, any combination of those dates, just know it will deepen our bond.**
get earnest
get disciplined
get active
see you there and out there
*forgive my florid language it’s all the Wilde circulating in my synapses
