Nola talks to trees...and summer rain

happy belated solstice everyone <3 i hope you had a good Juneteenth and start to cancer szn.

summer is such a fascinating time. everything looks different in the light of an overhead sun. not that it’s easy, but i feel possibility returning. dancing, scheduling timebound activities that will only work in the heat and long days, seeking out water, being off work… i’m lucky to have routes back to optimism, to be safe and loved enough to take my time getting to hope.

what a privilege to have access to nervous system healing techniques, phenomenal chosen family, and these gorgeous stinking aching lakes. the water reminds me that we can love things that we have poisoned and that there is no poison that can keep us from what we most love. the land, ourselves, each other. and the art we alchemize from every distorted narrative we choose not to carry with us.

love,

nola

a flurry of pink blossoms on a flowering tree
a Beltane bath filling by candlelight, with dried flowers in the corner
small pink flowers on a flowering tree hanging over the lake along the rocky shoreline
lake water foaming along the sand
light blossoms on tree branches stretching against clouds, blue sky, and a telephone wire
Nola's hand holding a dark purple lilac blossom, with her "enough" tattoo visible on her wrist
tennis shoes and loose light jeans against a rock above sparkling green water
a birthday table with candles, lilacs, music paraphernalia, and friend art
orange sun setting right on the horizon above the lake and concrete walkway
a handwritten card against bare skin, reading "Nola love, you made it through the year. That's enough." with a small heart
leafed branches over lake water, sun a little ways above the horizon
Nola's hand holding a bright pink blossom, her heart tattoo visible on her wrist
an exercise mat, water bottle, and keys in dappled sun on park grass
view looking up at thick green leaves on branches against light blue sky
a small moon rising in blue sky above trees, weedy lake water, and rocks
disco ball over a red-lit empty dance floor
Nola pursing her lips at the camera, hair swooped back and to one side, wearing dangling bottle-top earrings and a low cut striped stretch tank, plants and a window in the background
Beltane altar with burnt down, brightly lit pink-red candles, peach selenite, and a picture of Nola as a kid
two sets of feet - one in vans, one in boots - on a sandy beach with a heart and initials half washed away
campfire in a field, light stretching out of the flames in the dark, trees in the background
teal Lake Michigan water seen between branches and flowers along the shore
