Nola talks to trees... and half-frozen lakes

hey friends.

i love the solstice. there’s so much i don’t believe in anymore (mainstream holiday celebrations, romance, reform) but i do believe in the light returning. i believe life tends towards life and wants more of itself. more creation, more experience, more becoming, and definitely more joy. we all deserve more joy, and real things to celebrate, real rest, real fucking wins. i want to rip the shiny non-recyclable wrapping paper off of my life and off of this absurd death-dealing capitalist culture and find something earthen and real under it. our real bodies, our real loves. our real lessons, brutal as they often are.

what are you celebrating? how deep are you resting? where are you finding bitter cold in yourself and letting the darkness be a salve for this? i’m working on loving my disappointments, my limitations, and my heartbreaks. because every season wants to be a friend i think, even the ones that are hard to love. and the hard to love things always deserve our tenderness.

happy sun comeback <3

the full moon in a smoky blue sky seen through orange leaves, bare branches, and tree trunks
a behind the bar scene of mirrors, bottles, decor, and fairy lights
bright autumn light glancing through a yard of gold cattails
an orange sun setting over calm lake waves, framed by leafless branches and an azure sky
a mostly still lake along the shore, with sunlit bare trees in the distance
yellow leaves shot through with late afternoon streaks of sun on a busy street against blue sky
the same yellow leaves as the last picture in closeup, with lamplight behind them against twilight blue
Nola holding open a page of the Transness is Our Salve zine, with blue watery wing images and the words "your rejection set me free"
the view over Ferry Bluff at dusk with blue sky melting into residual sunset golds reflecting in the calm river below, framed by sandy brush and thin branches
Nettle (dark grey tabby cat) sitting on Nola's bed, looking up through a twilight window at falling snow
lakeshore view of light waves in the distance, snow and dried plants in the foreground, under a subtle blue-orange sunset
Nola (white bleached blonde short haired femme) in a black and white suit, looking mildly pleased with her reflection in the mirror
a cozy Christmas living room scene, with an aluminum tree, hanging star lamp, fairy lights, sleeping cat, and color wheel tinting everything with a red glow
retro aluminum christmas tree lit up by the solstice morning sun through the window
