How to recession proof your business
Hi There,
Recession. Great. As a geriatric millennial or xennial, I'm super pumped to experience the second recession of my lifetime.
Graduating in 2008 was great timing. Graduating from grad school in 2010 worked out just as well.
Then the pandemic came. And now this. Is the great depression of our time coming?
Now, I kind of have a doomsday personality. The zombies are coming and we are all gonna suffer and die.
That's part of my personality.
But another part of me is confident. Another part believes that freelance writing is actually one of the best ways to go during the recession.
I not only survived 2020 but actually increased my income. Big time. I just increased my rates for 2023. Successfully. No need for discounts or not raising my rates with economic fears around.
Now, I'm not an economist. I'm also only 39. That may feel old to me, but I certainly don't have as much experience as my grandparents had when they died. But nearly a decade of freelance writing, thriving during the pandemic as everyone else was losing their jobs, and recently raising my rates successfully has taught me a good thing.
Back in August, I wrote a blog post about how to recession-proof your business. I don't claim that it's a magic bullet. I don't see the future. I don't think any advice can work for every single person. But I do absolutely believe that these tips can help you to create a more sustainable freelance writing business and get us through the recession.
