How to Pick a Writing Service
Hi there,
How do I pick a freelance writing service?
This is a question I get all the time.
And the answer is: listen to your heart. Okay, okay. There is more to it.
Let me tell you how I picked mine, first.
Like most writers, I started writing blogs. At the time, they were shorter form, 500 to 1,000 words max. Eventually, I had the opportunity to try myself at different blogs. I had the opportunity to write ebooks, newsletters, and other things.
To be honest, I felt the pressure to say yes to everything. I've written some web copy, product descriptions, sales emails, landing pages, scripts for youtube, and more. But here is the truth: I didn't enjoy all of them. I hated some of them. And felt blah about the others.
So I picked what I enjoy.
I truly enjoy writing long-form, science-backed, research-heavy health content. (That's probably the former researcher in me.) So that's what I do. I also love writing ebooks and other longer materials. So I help clients with ebooks, patient handouts, and other patient materials. I've even ghostwritten a few books (in the bookstores near you, but I can't tell their titles. sorry). I also enjoy writing course content (former teacher here! I had many lives), so I do that too. I don't enjoy web copy, landing pages, product descriptions, ad copy, and scripts. So I stay away.
Paying attention to the needs of your ideal clients is important, of course. If your ideal clients or businesses in your niche don't need the type of writing service you want to offer, you are out of luck. Luckily, most businesses need most kinds of writing. So if you are unsure, pick what resonates. Or try a few things and pick what you love the most. You can always change it later.
