Change is a good thing

Hi there,

I started dating my husband 15 years ago. I know, I'm ancient.

I was only 24. We knew each other sort of, but we were not friends. I really wanted to go to a Modest Mouse concert, but I couldn't afford it. I wasn't able to get the free tickets (the concert hall at the time was giving away 'free tickets' with one drink minimum spending at the time). He had some and offered one.

I didn't think of anything of it. All I wanted was some tickets. But everything changed at the show. I got home surrounded with purple clouds. The rest is history.

But why am I telling you this? Don't worry, this is not turning into some mushy relationship blog.

I wanted to talk about change. Changing paths, to be more specific.

I was 24 at the time. (You do the math, ick.) I was a senior in college majoring in psych. I wanted to be a therapist. A year later, I started grad school in children's rights and become a psychosocial researcher instead.

I loved that job. But life is about change. Life circumstances led me on another path. This space is too short to tell you all the why-s.

I decided to get my TEFL certificate and teach English in Barcelona. I loved it. I followed that by working on organic farms and housesitting in various countries, then teaching English in Mexico again. I also trained as a health coach: I thought that was my calling. Spoiler alert: it was not.

I had some clients but I was struggling to establish a successful health coaching business. And I hated the health coaching industry. I didn't belong.

I was trying to promote myself through writing when people started reaching out. They wanted guest posts. Writing help. Some offered to pay. Not much. But I was amazed. I got curious.

This leads me down the rabbit hole, and I eventually found my love: freelance writing.

I've been writing in the online space for nearly a decade and doing this full-time for about 7 of those. I can't promise it will be forever. I can't predict the future. But I still love it just as much as I did 5, 7, or 9 years ago. Maybe even more. I make a comfortable income working part-time hours. I work with amazing clients.

But 15 years ago when I started dating my husband, I had NO idea this was my path. I have several degrees. I've taken countless courses. I've had different careers. I honestly loved them all. I've traveled the world. I've lived in several different countries.

And there is one thing I know. Life is about change. And changing is okay.

If you are currently working in a career you love...if you want to become a freelance writer...if you want to do this full-time...or if you want to take your business to the next level: do it.

Even if society is telling you that you shouldn't change. If you want to: just do it. Change is okay. And you know what: you don't have to commit to it forever either. If you want to do something else in one, five, ten, or twenty years, you can change again.

Not sure what to do? Don't worry, I have a roadmap for you. I created a course for newbie and struggling freelance writers. Learn how to create a sustainable business without the struggle. Check it out here.

I honestly didn't want to do another sale this year. I still won't be doing one for the holidays because I honestly hate the holiday pressure to buy. Not to mention that I already have some discount options if you can't afford the full price.

But I still wanted to memorate the occasion. 15 years with a person is a long time.

So I want to give you 15% off the full price of my course. Just enter '11/11' to get the discount. It can't be used with any other discount. It's only valid today (11/11) and tomorrow (11/12).

I hope to see you inside the course. But either way, listen to your heart. And remember, changing is okay.

Much love,

Kat
