The One-Woman Dev Team Diaries #231

Coding while on holiday, blocking users, email impersonation, and an internal roadmap sneak peek. 👀

Blocking Out Time And Users

I’ve managed to start carving out more time for dev work again and it feels so good! 🥹

I even managed to get a little bit of coding done while recently away with my brother and sister in Sardinia.

Me in an orange spaghetti-strap dress sitting at a restaurant table, smiling at the camera. I'm wearing gold earrings and a gold-banded smartwatch, with trees and evening lights visible outside behind me.

A panoramic view across rugged, rocky mountains and green valleys beneath a blue sky filled with large white clouds.

My siblings and I sit together at a venue lit by purple and pink neon lighting, with a rustic stone wall and greenery behind us.

A sandy beach viewed from beneath woven sunshades, with loungers and parasols facing the sea and kayaks lined up near the water.

I’ve completed most of the Block Users feature, but I didn’t dare deploy anything. Nope, I know what happens when you do things like that. Things go wrong, that’s what! 😌☝️

A StoryGraph user profile for @block_demo_blocked, with the three-dot menu open to reveal a “Block” option.

A StoryGraph screen for block_demo_blocked explaining: “You've blocked this user, so you can't see their profile and they can't see yours. Unblocking won't restore any previous follows, friendship, or likes.” An “Unblock” button appears below.

A StoryGraph confirmation dialog asking, “Unblock block_demo_blocked?” It explains that the user will be able to find and view the profile, reviews, and activity again, but previous follows, friendship, and likes won't be restored. Buttons read “Yes, unblock” and “Cancel”.

Hopefully this goes live in the next day or so and works a treat. 🤞🏾

Well, there’s not much use for it now, but maybe once commenting on reviews comes out that’ll be a different matter. 😅

Have I Made It?

The scams have now started going up a level:

An email beginning, “Hi Nadya, I got an email from someone claiming to be you. Just thought I should give you a heads up.” Below is a screenshot of an email titled “2026–2027 Reading Challenge” sent by “The Story Graph Reading Challenge” from an address containing nadia.odunayo.com@gmail.com.

A screenshot of the fraudulent email claiming: “My name is Nadia, and I am the Founder of The Story Graph Reading Challenge.” It says the sender is seeking books for a “2026 to 2027 Reading Challenge” and offers authors potential reader exposure.

There’s nothing I can do about these, right?

It’s so frustrating because we have seen an uptick in people emailing in to check their legitimacy, which makes me worried for all the people who believe it is me and have responded. 😫

Roadmap Sneak Peek

I don’t have much more to say in this issue as I’ll be starting to sound like a broken record, so I’ll just leave you with a sneak peek at my internal roadmap:

A portion of a planning spreadsheet showing “Aug 17 – Sep 13: Community/Social” and “Sep 14 – Oct 11: Reading Together (Buddy Reads, Book Clubs, Readalongs) | Priority: Merging Buddy Reads & Readalongs”.
👀

I’ve already dedicated two more 4-week sprints to Community/Social than I wanted to, so wish me luck that I can finally close off this chapter come September 13th. 🤞🏾

What I’m Reading

I’ve had The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune on my To-Read Pile (and have owned a copy) for a long time now, so when I saw a user post about doing a buddy read for it on social media, I decided to jump in!

The StoryGraph listing for The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, showing 44% reading progress, a start date of August 19, 2026, and a “view buddy read” option.

Have a great week,

Nadia
