The One-Woman Dev Team Diaries #214

Feature Freeze Enjoyment, 2026 roadmap plans, standing desk recs, and a quick read... 👀

Happy Feature Freeze Holidays!!

Yeah, so we’re gonna be doing this every year, from now on… 😆

Normally around this time I’d be rushing to get in the last few updates before Jan 1st, but instead that scramble happened two weeks ago.

And even though I wasn’t happy with my final output, it’s been lovely to have a break from coding, spend more time with friends and family, enjoy hours at the gym and me-time guilt-free, have peace of mind that I’m not going to suddenly break the app or that there’ll be something dodgy in the latest App Store/Play Store release and users will be stuck with it for days, plan out my personal roadmap and The StoryGraph’s roadmap for 2026 while still in 2025, and be able to complete my 2025 Pages Goal (again, guilt-free) before the final minutes of December 31st... 👀

Pre-StoryGraph these holidays were always my favourite part of the year and it’s great to be able to enjoy more of them once again.

I did think I’d do a little bit more coding than I have done in the last couple of weeks, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. Oh well.

Though based on the 2026 roadmap I’m thinking through (more on that later), I’m a little uneasy about when I’ll be able to return to certain unfinished streams of work. 😅

Standing Desk

I wanted to get one this year but didn’t get round to it. So, let’s see if I can get one for next year!

Do you have any recommendations? Please send them my way!

I stand behind a desk and display, peeking my head out from behind the display. A colleague standing next to me is doing the same.

2026 Roadmap

I want to try something new next year: every 4 weeks, a new focus — and I’ll work only on that thing for 4 weeks (bar any critical bugs of course).

Even when I’ve finalised it, I don’t think I’m going to publicise the plan for the entire year as I think a lot of people will hold us to it and not understand our (sometimes wildly) shifting priorities.

What I will likely do instead is share the plan for the upcoming quarter and let you know in retrospect, what, if anything, ended up changing.

One thing I feel confident declaring is that the first month is going to be focused on revenue, so it’ll be all things Plus and Giveaways.

Let’s see anyway…a lot can change in a few days, especially our busiest days of the year!

What I'm Reading

Hey, I need to get 500 pages in stat, so it’s finally time for the Humans of New York coffee table book that I’ve had for a decade! 😅

Screenshot of a book pane on The StoryGraph for Humans of New York by Brandon Stanton. The book is listed as nonfiction and art, with mood tags including emotional, informative, reflective, and slow-paced. A progress bar shows 49% completed, with the status set to “currently reading” and a start date of December 29, 2025. An “owned” button appears on the right, along with an option to mark the book as finished.

(Oh and I finished Middlemarch yesterday! I’m so glad I have finally read this classic though I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would… 👀)

Wishing everyone an awesome 2026,

Nadia
