#9 - The 'Onboard - Listen - Iterate' Cycle

For the beta, we'll be onboarding people in groups of 5-7, listening to their feedback, and iterating on the product. Then we'll do it all again. :-)

Onboard — Listen — Iterate — Onboard

29 of you have filled out the Concierge Beta application form. Thank you!

The question mulling around in my head this week was:

Which scenario would you prefer come the end of August: a more developed product with fewer users, or more users but the product has hardly progressed?

I think it's vital I focus on the former. The most important thing for The StoryGraph right now is information. Feedback. What is working? What isn't?

And with groups that are larger than 5-7 people, you tend to have too much information when it comes to synthesis.

Therefore, the plan is to:
  1. Onboard 5-7 people
  2. Let them use the app for a few days
  3. Get their feedback and analyse it
  4. Iterate on the product based on what I've learned
  5. Go back to step 1.
While this may mean that some of you are waiting for a while to use the app, I hope that the longer you wait is positively correlated to the quality of the product and your first experience with it. 😁
Last week

I onboarded 5 people. I've had some positive murmurings from a couple of users, but I'm looking forward to digging into those first impressions.

User testing is great for discovering little issues you might not have found on your own.

Lara has requested for 'The Handmaids Tale'  to be added to the website.

But that book is definitely on the system!

That's when I realised that the search didn't work if the search term didn't include apostrophes. 🤦🏾‍♀️
This week

I'll be working from Pune, India, since I've been invited to keynote a conference there.

If you've been: Where should I eat? Where should I work from? What should I do to take a break?

I'll be onboarding a couple more users — people who've been around from the beginning and have longer lists — as well as setting up for my first round of feedback calls.
What I'm reading right now

Not sure about the structure, but it is very informative, indeed! 😁

Have a great week,

Nadia
