#88 | 1 March 2021

It was February somewhere...

When we first announced that we had a Plus plan available for pre-order back in October, we said it would launch some time 'early 2021'.

Intentionally vague... 👀

Still, we didn't want to leave everyone waiting too long, but we also realised that there was no way we'd be able to launch the plan in January, alongside coming out of beta.

And so we backed ourselves: surely, by February it would all be done.

As if I don't know any better given all of my time in software and startups... 😅
A screenshot of the top of the old StoryGraph Plus page. The subtitle reads "Coming February 2021".
Ahhh, so confident. 😆

So, you can imagine my face last night, February 28th, when 9pm hit and there were still a handful of things that weren't done yet... 👀

Luckily, Rob and I work very well under (sometimes unnecessary, definitely self-imposed) pressure, and so at 3am on March 1st in the UK — but most importantly, 10pm and earlier on February 28th in the United States (where most of our users are) — Plus was officially launched! 🥳

Since last time...

The last two weeks have naturally meant lots of great updates to the product, for both free and paid members alike.

Perhaps the most exciting release is our machine learning-powered similar books feature!
A screenshot of the "similar books" page for Yoko Ogawa's The Memory Police. Underneath the hearder is a button that reads "See non-personalised similar books". Then there are two book panes. One for Yoko Tawada's The Emissary and another for George Orwell's 1984.
Plus users get their personal reading preferences taken into account when browsing similar books!

Plus users now get stats pages for any of their custom tags and can compare them side-by-side, just like everyone can do with their standard reading stats.

No fast-paced books for me in my February reading, and it was either short books or big ones!

And perhaps less exciting for users, but very exciting for me at having set it all up: you can now take out a monthly or annual subscription in USD, GBP, or EUR, but first you'll be directed to enjoy our 30-day free trial! 🙌🏾

A screenshot of the top of The StoryGraph Plus pricing page. There are two toggles, one for currency and another for frequency. "GBP" is selected in the first toggle, and the second is expanded to show "Monthly" and "Yearly" with "Monthly" highlighted. The price of £3.49 per month is shown. There is a button to "Start Free Trial" and there is subtext that says the "30-day free trial" doesn't require payment information.

Next two weeks

What's in store for us for the next two weeks you ask?

Well, why don't we let our handy new public roadmap tell us? 😎
A screenshot of The StoryGraph's public roadmap. The writing isn't legible, but you can see there are 6 columns running down the page.

Looks like, if things go well, users will be able to easily see what the people they follow think of books they're browsing, as well as sort their book lists by title, author, and more!

What I'm reading right now

For The StoryGraph's Genre Reading Challenge prompt to read a memoir or autobiography by an Indigenous author, I've picked up Blonde Indian: An Alaska Native Memoir by Ernestine Hayes.

Have a great week,

Nadia
