Last week
So...you might have guessed: while exciting and validating, last week was rather overwhelming.
The main source of that stress: having over 5000 Goodreads imports to process when the most your infrastructure ever had to deal with at any one time was 8! 😰
Before everything exploded, we didn't have time to realise that the email that said "your import is underway! It will be done soon" was now a complete lie — but of course it was too late: 5000 people were out there thinking that their import had begun even though they were most likely sitting in a queue behind thousands of other users.
On top of that, our systems that processed our personalised "Ordered for you" sorting feature couldn't handle the 8000 new survey responses.
The emails and tweets started rolling in: What's going on? Why haven't I heard anything yet? Is it broken?
So the week was spent with myself and Rob furiously trying to catch up and respond to every message we received.
We've made good progress, including rearchitecting how the imports work, but we haven't quite crossed the finish line just yet.
Had to add that last line. It's been more than a few days for many people at this point. 😬
