#53 - When Your Customers Sell For You

Customers pitching the product of their own accord and working away behind-the-scenes to make the site work better and faster!

Customers Selling

We've been spotting something fun happening over the last few months: customers investing a lot of time and energy into pitching the product to their friends and communities, without us knowing it's going to happen.

Here are a couple of recent examples:

First up, Fuzz and Lauren of the @fuzzlozreads Instagram account.

Lauren was one of the first-ever Editors and roped her fiancé into using the site — now they both can't get enough. 😍

Spot the "TSG Stats" label? They created a bookmark of all the times they've shared screenshots
of their StoryGraph stats on Instagram.
🤓

They do an occasional Instagram Live show where they each choose a book for the other to read and talk about what they think they're going to make of the book their partner has selected for them.

A month ago, I decided to watch their last show back and was stunned to discover that they'd spent over 20 minutes out of 30 demoing The StoryGraph, singing its praises, and responding to viewer questions. 🤩

A more recent example: @jennastopreading only started using the site a week ago but loved it so much that she felt compelled to make us the subject of her latest blog post:

The fact that this stuff is happening organically fills me with even more optimism about the product's future. 😊

Last week

Last week felt like one of catch-up — and we've still not caught up yet. 😩

The list of things to deal with is mostly errors right now!

We made some improvements to the speed and performance of the site, but there are some areas that still need work.

Let's just say that there are a few pages that we just hope a bunch of people don't click on at the same time as it'll make the whole site slow...and potentially crash it... 😬😅

This week

I've been feeling a little anxious that last week was mainly spent fixing stuff behind-the-scenes.

I'm hoping I can get onto more forward-facing areas real soon, especially to show our new users that things are always improving around here. 😎

One of my best friends, who's also an amazing product designer, reviewed the whole site last weekend and put together some incredible-looking notes for me:

I'm very excited to chat with her this week and learn more about how I can take the design and user experience of the site to the next level! 🤓

What I'm reading right now

There was hardly any time for reading last week. 😩

I've re-worked my schedule as keeping up with my reading is super important to me. Hopefully I can finally start this:

Have a great week,

Nadia
