Polishing the rough edges

As more people use the site and spend longer on it, the rough edges and other missing basic functionality start to form the subject of a lot of customer emails.

"I keep getting signed out."

"It's not even possible for me to sign out."

Fixed! 😇

"I've marked 177 books as owned, yet only 9 are showing up."

Fixed! 😅

Last week was one mainly spent fixing things and improving the more subtle parts of the user experience.

The current challenge is attending to this kind of work without getting lost in it.

After all, we've still not reached product/market fit, and there's no point polishing something that won't be around for a lot longer.

But, of course, we at The StoryGraph HQ don't believe we're going anywhere!
💪🏾
Last week

A couple new things were delivered amongst all of the tidying up!

Sometimes you want to be reminded of books that are already on your radar and sometimes you're not inspired by anything in your To-Read Pile:

And now users can see their own reading updates on their "People You Follow" feed, meaning they never have to venture into the wild world of the Community Feed if they don't want to! 😆

This week

The feedback for "Ordered for you" V5 has been excellent. However, we realised that for our users to experience those excellent results, they needed to have submitted a suitable answer to this question:

The problem is that it's the question that users most struggle with. Rather than removing it, which I was tempted to do at one point, I now see that the solution is redesigning the survey to make answering that question a lot easier.

Rob is hard at work at the next version which will provide the same high-quality results whilst drastically cutting down the processing time.

I'll start working on integrating "Ordered for you" directly into the site, making it a self-service feature!

What I'm reading right now

I'm almost done with Royal Assassin, and then it's time to finish off this series once and for all:

Have a great week,

Nadia
