#42 - An Excellent Experience

How we can make the site even more personal and valuable and the final group call of the current Editor testing programme.

Even More Personal

We're on a mission to be the go-to place to find your next book. The unique way we do that is by helping you to choose books by mood and pace.

Our mood and pace tags are very good. But they could be even better. They could be excellent.

Then we'd be able to create an even more personal and valuable experience.

Right now, if you do a filter for a funny, fast-paced contemporary fiction book, these are the top two results:

And anyone around the world doing the same filter will see the same books returned.

Say you don't like the look of them, you can scroll past them, no problem.

That may be fine now given there are only 41 results. But what about when you get a list of 41,000 books returned?

Now imagine a world where there are 41,000 results, but the ones at the very top are the best funny, fast-paced contemporary fiction books for you!

Startup literature says that you should focus in on the thing that sets you apart from everyone else.

So that's what we're doing over at The StoryGraph's HQ right now. 😎
Last week

We had our final call of the Editor testing programme! It was fantastic. 😍

When pitching different potential business models/subscription options for the site — including a world where personal recommendations were no more 👀 —  it was so interesting to see and hear the range of their reactions!

You see how happy these calls make me?

The product has now matured enough that an open-for-any Editor programme isn’t the right fit. However, seeking feedback from key customers and iterating based on that is vital to our success. We'll be sure to keep doing that in some shape or form!

On the site, books that you own can now be viewed on a dedicated page! 🙌🏾

Before you could only access owned books via your To-Read Pile filter menu

This week

We have the final 1:1 check-ins with the Editors!

I'll be finding out how The StoryGraph fits into their lives, whether it solves a need, and which direction they see the product going in.

I'll report back on my findings next week. 😁
What I'm reading right now

After finishing the masterpiece that is Girl, Woman, Other yesterday morning, I'll be picking up the wonderful Rose Lu's essay collection this week:

What was the last essay collection that you read?

Have a great week,

Nadia
