#36 - Nobody wants to pay...?

The results of the personal recommendation experiment are revealed and why we likely need to focus on design and user experience now.

The experiment I described last week?

Looks like nobody is interested. 😢

How many people weren't interested?

Turns out that only 0.21% of page views related to the Personal Recommendation dashboard.

I don't even know if any non-paying users ended up there!

There were also a couple of messages asking: so, how do I find this personal recommendation page?

Maybe what looks like a business model problem is in fact a design problem... 🤔

More on this below. 😌

Last week

The News Feed got a little smarter! 🤓

No more of this:

Only this:

😍

And now there's a way to see if any books you've already identified as 'to-read' fit into your reading challenges:

Feature coming to a Browse Books page near you soon. 😎

This week

Currently, a lot of user pain points are related to the site's design and user experience.

I started gathering feedback on this last week and will begin sketching out new designs and user flows.

The StoryGraph could do with a design that takes advantage of the increased screen space on desktop.

However, I spotted these charts yesterday and am not so sure that developing one is an effective use of time:

Rob's been working on an update to our import book tool that will hopefully reduce the number of messages we receive that go something like this:

"I tried to add the English version of this Japanese book. I typed in the title in English, but it still returned the book in Japanese."

We should be deploying that this week! 😁

What I'm reading right now

Going to start dipping into these as part of my Stephen King chronological read:

Short stories aren't my favourite, but I'm looking forward to this book as I've heard great things.

What's a short story collection that you loved?

Have a great week,

Nadia
