Trusting The Team
F: You know I can teach you everything I'm doing, right? It's not that hard.
Me: *Pauses, fighting the urge to say: yes, okay, teach it all to me. I want to know everything!* No...that doesn't really make sense...I have so much to do...
F: Yeah, that's what I figured too.
It was already hard enough taking a step back when Abbie and the Librarians started adding new books to the site every day. Resisting checking that the tags were accurate, that all of the blurbs were formatted correctly...
And now F is developing what is likely to be a core part of the product and only they know the details of how it has all works.
But that's okay. In fact, that's great.
If you want to lead a team effectively and allow the people who work for or with you to thrive, then it's so important to trust them to get on with it.
People do their best work when they have the safe space to be creative, without fearing what will happen if they fail.
Being a micro-manager is sooo inefficient — not only do you frustrate your team members, you're not getting any valuable work done yourself!
