#26 - With A Little Help...

In which I share how Andrew and Rob really helped me out this week, and reveal the findings from my 1:1 check-ins with paying users.

...from my friends!

Thanks to my amazing friends Andrew and Rob, filtering on The StoryGraph is now 70% faster. 😎

Andrew helped me get started. He identified the problem and worked with me to begin implementing the fix.

Then I told Andrew: "Right, thanks! I've got it from here!" 😌

I didn't have it from there. 😩

And I spent two days trying — and failing — to make everything work again. 😭

I'm so glad I randomly decided to complain about it to Rob.

While he had some expertise of one element of what I was working on, he had zero knowledge about another key factor —that being the software language and platform I use — but he still offered to jump on a call and help me figure it all out.

Thank you, Andrew and Rob. I appreciate you both so much. ❤️

Oh, and the moral to this story?

Don't be afraid to reach out to your friends for help. There's been many times in the last few months where I wish I'd done so sooner.

Last week

On the stats page you can now see how many pages you've read, as well as see a chart of your star ratings:

70,000+ pages over the last 8-ish years. Not bad, eh?

Lack of granularity in Goodreads' ratings meant a wide range of positive reading experiences ended up in the 4 ⭐️ bucket

I also completed my 1:1 end-of-month check-ins with The StoryGraph Editors.

Looks like I'm still in the nice-to-have bracket, but the product and community is definitely moving in the right direction.

For a small handful of the Editors, The StoryGraph is now their number one go-to when they're picking up a new book.

Can the product become this for a much larger set of people, or is the product scope, and therefore the business, limited? 🤔
This week

F has been busy improving The StoryGraph's computer brain and Abbie will likely be helping to train a new and improved version of the system this week.

I'm going to be focusing on year-to-date stats and giving users the ability to set an annual reading goal.

Hit 'Reply' and let me know how many books you've read so far this year and how many you'd like to read next year!
What I'm reading right now

30 pages left of Why We Sleep, and then I'll be starting this one:

Some say I should get the tissues ready (I'm yet to cry at a book...), while others say that they found the writing rather impersonal given the subject matter.

If you've read it, what did you think?

Have a great week,

Nadia
