Editors Assemble

I didn't get enough interest in the new payment plan I floated, so I'm going to focus on my current paying cohort for now.

We had an excellent group call last week:
  • "I want to know whenever there's a new fast-paced, science fiction book on the website" or "I want to be able to quickly find a new book to buy for my mum" — saved searches will be coming soon!

  • I knew there was a problem when a daily user asked me what "TBR" stood for. That term exists on the site no more! Users are now interacting with their "To-Read Pile".

Always got to make sure I'm reading widely. 😅

  • Users are loving the personal recommendations and the Community News Feed as every day they're discovering books they've never heard of before. 😍
Last week

Now the filter menu is a little more flexible when searching for moods:

See books tagged with any of the selected moods

I also onboarded 4 StoryGraph Librarians. It's so cool going onto the website each day and seeing new books on there that I didn't add!
This week

Before I get onto the first iteration of saved searches, there are three dimensions I want to improve:

Performance — the site could still be faster!

Responsiveness —
the site needs to look decent on all screen sizes. It does well on larger desktops and mobile, but is dodgy for a range of sizes in between.

Accessibility — if someone with disabilities visits the site, the user experience will likely leave a lot to be desired.

It's easy to let these things slip in the early days, but I'd love to bake them into the identity of the product.
What I'm reading right now

Finally extracting value from my recent reread of The Handmaid's Tale!

Have a great week,

Nadia

P.S. If you know a friend who's an avid mood reader or would enjoy following along with this journey, please do forward this email to them! Thank you. :-)
