Birthday Break

Last week I turned one year older! 🥳

I always like to celebrate my birthday somehow and so I planned a range of fun activities dotted throughout the week: a private dance class, a stand-up comedy night, dinner with friends...

Imagine of a rooftop pool looking out onto the skyline, where buildings and two tall pillars are visible.
A fun activity during my Birthday Week — a heated rooftop pool. 😁

Birthdays are also a fantastic time for reflection.

And last week I couldn't help but reflect on the fact that despite being a one-woman dev team and having almost a million people using StoryGraph each week, the app is so stable that I can step back for a bit to fully enjoy my birthday on my own terms. 🥰

Since last time...

Improvements to navigating large buddy reads started in earnest! First up, the ability to change the sort order of the comments:

App screenshot showing the top of the buddy read Discussion section. To the right is a dropdown. "Descending" is selected and the other option available is "Ascending".

We've also done a lot of work on the upcoming new feature that we're going to have our Volunteer Librarians beta test for us. We're so curious to see what they think!

Screenshot of a Discord forum post. The title reads: BETA TEST: StoryGraph Preview/Personalized Preview. The description reads: "Please leave us any thoughts, feedback, and suggestions on this new feature as we give you an advanced look before general launch.". Then there's one comment by me which reads: "I'll let you know when it's actually live everyone!"
We had a couple of other anniversaries:

We celebrated Abbie working for The StoryGraph for four years! She's done such great, and incredibly varied, work during that time. 🥳

And we also celebrated the one-year anniversary of our Giveaways platform going live. It's still in beta but it's come a long way since last September and, each month, we're getting closer to it being self-service. 🏆

Next two weeks

There's only a handful of days left of the month and several unchecked goals so I'm going to see how much I can blast through. Please send me all of the productivity vibes. 🍀

What I'm reading

I decided to include The Dark Tower series in my chronological Stephen King read so it's The Gunslinger up next for me!
StoryGraph Book pane for Stephen King's The Gunslinger. The book cover on the left depicts two characters between an upside-down NY-style city landscape. The tags in the middle read: fantasy, science fiction, adventurous, dark, mysterious, medium-paced. There's a custom tag reading: sep-tbr. To the right is a progress bar filled out 42%.

Have a great week,

Nadia
