#15 - From 'Nice-to-have' to Paying Customers!

In which I explain how I went from doubts about the product to paying customers — and how you can get involved with our 3-month discounted paid trial!

We have paying users!

How do I determine whether The StoryGraph is merely a nice-to-have, or if there is a real need it's solving?

See if my testers will pay for advanced features, that's how!

Something that kept on coming up was the desire for a more personal experience, so I offered a paid plan that provided just that.

And some of my testers have decided to give it a go.  🎉
Introducing the 'Lighthearted' plan

For £4.99/$6 a month, paying testers will get one personal recommendation per month as well as the ability to customise the filter menu — don't want to see a certain book or author again? Now you don't have to!

The trial will run from October to December, and the plan is to introduce more paid features during that time: in particular, the ability to host buddy reads, reading challenges, and book clubs on the site.

If these sound like features you'd love to experiment with and help shape, then hit 'Reply' and let me know.

Anyone signing up in September will get the £4.99/month price for life, with access to whatever paid features The StoryGraph offers in the future.
Last week

Alongside planning how the subscription model for the website might work, the main activities last week were sketching out the Beta V2 roadmap and starting work on the improvements.

Coming real soon to a beta app near you: a profile with reading statistics (Which moods do you read the most?, Do you prefer fast- or slow-paced books?) and a community news feed.

That's a snapshot of my project management tool. Ignore the estimated dates — I need to get all of that done, and more, before October 1st. 😅
This week

The first half of the week will be business as usual — working as hard as I can to deliver new features, add books to the site, and converse with customers.

On Thursday, I'm going on a mini retreat with one of my best friends to the East Yorkshire coast. I'm taking time away from my day-to-day in London to rest, read, and reflect on my business and personal goals. 🧘🏾‍♀️

What I'm reading right now

Third book in my Stephen King chronological read. Loving the slow build-up...!

Have a great week — and do let me know if you fancy trialing the 'Lighthearted' plan — it'll be fun. 😁
