Thank You For Your Trust

In the last issue, I asked you to send me your wishlist of community/social features, centred around three prompts.

The last prompt was: A community/social product development that you'd hate to see on StoryGraph.

Because of the way we approach building the product, I'm pretty confident we wouldn't release a feature that would be disliked by the majority of users, and I was happy to see that most of the points mentioned in response to this prompt were things we'd never want to do.

See that whitespace at the bottom of the review? Don't worry — that won't suddenly be filled with comments by strangers. 😆

A few responses to this prompt stuck out to me. They went along the lines of:

"Can't think of anything. I trust that whatever you do will be great. I'm not worried about this at all."

And, knowing that trust is something that is earned and built up over time, those messages meant a great deal. 🥰

Since last time...

We finished all of the onboarding improvements we wanted to make! 🎉

After setting up their community preferences, a user can configure their audiobook tracking, if relevant:

Screenshot of an onboarding page on StoryGraph. The log is at the top and a white box with a grey border underneath. Inside the box reads "Do you listen to audiobooks?" and then there are two buttons side-by-side, joined in the middle reading "yes" and "no". The "yes" button is highlighted in green.
A from with a dropdown. The dropdown is labelled "Pages or minutes?" with the subtitle "how would you like any audiobooks you log to be reflected in your tracking and stats?" and in the dropdown "Track as minutes" is selected.
And then, instead of funnelling everybody to the recommendations page, we now recognise that a new user may have other things they're more excited to check out first:
The new final onboarding screen. The heading reads "What would you like to do next" and then there's a list of items, each with a right-facing arrow before the option. The options are "get some recommendations", "set up reading goals", "browse reading challenges", and "see what the community is reading".
I just love how much more a user will know about what's on offer on StoryGraph by the time they come to the end of this onboarding flow, compared to the old one! 😁

Next two weeks

We'll be getting ready for the next round of giveaways to go live and I'm going to begin exploring the possibility of delivering digital and audio prizes in-app! 😎

We're still looking for authors and publishers to take part in the next round. If that's you, or you know somebody who might be interested, there's more information here: https://forms.gle/KykvLw9eD6f8pz1K8.

What I'm reading

Back with Stephen King, and his Cujo, as part of my (incredibly super) slow chronological read of his books!
StoryGraph book pane of Stephen King's Cujo. The cover is on the list and features a green and orange background with a grey picture of a dog open-mouthed on top. The book info is in the middle: 439 pages, first published 1981, with the tags horror, thriller, dark, tense, and medium-paced. There's also a custom 'may-tbr' tag on it. On the right, there's a progress bar 5% filled.

Have a great week,

Nadia
