Hit "Reply"
I was talking to a friend the other day who'd just started a newsletter.
He was surprised when I told him that I'd really enjoyed the first issue. He'd heard not a peep from any other person and he's someone who's relatively well-known online in the software industry.
It made me think of my experience running this newsletter and I told him that it wasn't a reflection of what people actually thought.
Sometimes I'll get an email from a stranger that starts with something like "I've been reading your newsletter for years and I love it...", or "I'm not sure if I'm meant to reply this way or if anybody actually reads this...", or "I probably won't get a reply but..."
A lot of people just quietly enjoy their newsletter subscriptions, don't necessarily have anything to say in response, or do, but assume the author might be too busy or inundated with other emails to reply to them.
This is all to say: thank you for reading, especially those of you that have been around for years, and don't be shy to hit "Reply", whether I explicitly ask a question or not.
It's always a pleasure to hear from you and I will write back. 😊
