T Minus Four Weeks

Twenty-six issues later, I find myself in the same position...

Four weeks left to do allll the things! 😅
Screenshot showing a section of StoryGraph's upcoming 2021 reading wrap up page. There are 3 rows of information. The first row has a book cover to the right-hand side. To the left is label in green reading "Shortest book" and the words "176 pages" underneath it in bold green lettering. The second row has black text which reads: "The average length of the books you read was 377 pages and it took you around 8 days to finish each book!". "377 pages" and "8 days" are highlighted in green and emboldened. The third row is a white box with a yellow/gold border. Text inside the box reads "2021's average rating was... 4.63 ⭐️".
A lot of people are incredibly excited for their 2022 StoryGraph Wrap-Up!

Of course, the product is awesome as is. But readers always get excited for the start of the New Year — new resolutions, new goals, new reading challenges, and new books to read — and we want to facilitate all of that and multiply the excitement! 😃

Some things coming up include the 2022 Wrap-Up, StoryGraph's official 2023 reading challenges, and the second instalment of our January Pages Challenge. 🤩

Since last time...

After Owned Books Stats, the next thing we wanted to deliver was DNF Stats. However, we knew that there were bigger pain points with the DNF page — namely no search, sort, or filtering — and so we're starting with that first, improving how the behind-the-scenes DNF tracking works in the process as well.

Screenshot of the top of a user's DNF page on StoryGraph. In between the title and the first book page is a search bar, with the placeholder: "Search books...".
The search bar went live recently!

We're slowly improving our Giveaways platform too. Our latest update was giving people a way to withdraw their entries themselves:

Screenshot of part of the prizes section on a giveaway page. At the bottom of the prize information is a grey button titled "Withdraw". The implication is that the user has hovered over the button because there is title text reading: "You have entered this giveaway. Click to withdraw!"

All of the usability testing interviews for our redesign are complete! Now it's time to analyse the results and implement the changes! 👀

Next two weeks

I've not done as much of the stats work as I wanted to by this point due to travel (I'm currently in the US, hence you receiving this newsletter later in the day than is usual) and other product prerequisites (such as with DNFs), so that's still a focus for this upcoming week!

What I'm reading

Soon I'll be starting Gabrielle Zevin's Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow in preparation for the next instalment of our Instagram Book Club! Hopefully some of you will be able to read the book before December 18th and join in!
Screenshot of the book pane for Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. The book cover is to the left and features a large wave with multi-coloured text on top. To the right is all of the book information. It's tagged with: fiction, contemporary, literary, emotional, reflective, sad, medium-paced. It's marked as "Owned" and "to-read" by me, and the custom tags "nov-tbr" and "storygraph-book-club-dec" have been added.

Have a great week,

Nadia
