Advanced Stats

A couple issues back I wrote about how we were thinking of repositioning our Plus plan such that, in addition to them supporting the business, our subscribers felt that all of the extra features offered were incredibly valuable and compelling.

Our customer research and feedback consistently shows us just how much everybody loves our stats section. Given this, we want to transition Plus into being more of an advanced stats package. Think more charts and graphs, more detailed insights, and more complex functionality, across existing features and future ones. 🤓

Screenshot of the top of my Compare Stats page. In the two dropdowns I've selected to compare "2021" against "2022" so far. There's a middle pane showing the number of books and pages read in each year. Underneath is a chart exclusive to Plus showing how the number of books read in each year per month varies.
Oooh we've got real exciting plans for taking "Compare Stats" to the next level. 😎

As with everything we do, the starting point is customer research and so Abbie and I ran a round of interviews last week, speaking to a range of customers about what they think of StoryGraph's stats and what they're tracking in their own reading spreadsheets.

We're excited to analyse what we've learnt and start implementing the changes.

Oh, and as we advance the Plus stats functionality, other current paid features will become part of the free product. 😁

Since last time...

We launched our long-awaited language stats! 🎉

Screenshot of one our Instagram posts from last week. It shows a bar chart with three horizontal pink bars. The top, longest bar is labelled English, the second is labelled Dutch, and the final bar is labelled French. Along the x-axis is "No. of books". Above the chart there is a title and subtitle reading: Languages: English: 60%, Dutch 33.9%, French: 6.1%.

We continued the work on making it easier to add books to reading challenges.

Screenshot of the links section of a StoryGraph book page. The second link: "Add to reading challenges..." is highlighted in green. The other links around it read: "Browse personalised similar books (Plus)", "Start a buddy read..." and "Report missing/incorrect information..."

There's now an “Add to reading challenges...” link that takes you to a new page where you can click into each of your challenges and add books to prompts.

When you’re done, rather than being taken back to the book page and having to start all over again, you’re taken back to this new page, making it a much smoother experience when you’re adding a single book to multiple challenges in one go.

We also passed the 5k milestone for Plus subscribers! 🥳

Next two weeks

A bunch of publishers and authors have pre-ordered our Beta Giveaways and we're excited to work with them for the launch of the new section on September 19th. 🙌🏾

What I'm reading

I've been listening to The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X and am learning loads!

StoryGraph book pane for "The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X" by Les Payne with his daughter Tamara Payne. The narrator is listed underneath the title as "Dion Graham". The book has tags: nonfiction, biography, history, informative, reflective, slow-paced. It's duration is listed as 18 hours, 6 minutes. There's a progress bar filled up 81% in green. I've marked it as "Owned" and "currently reading". I've also added two custom tags: "audio" and "libro-alc".

Have a great week,

Nadia
