On our millions of pageviews, reaching a new user signup milestone, a not so nerve-wracking database upgrade, and an upcoming search dropdown.

What about the pageviews?

I'm often too busy talking about the number of signups, active users, and paying users, that I forget to talk about our pageview stats!

Screenshot of our web analytics dashboard. On a dropdown top right, "June 2022" has been selected. Underneath is a line chart with some stats above. The stats reads: Unique Visitors, 2.4M, Total Pageviews, 31.4M, Bounce rate 22%, Visit duration 4m 07s. The line chart has date plotted against page views, and hovers around 1M each day.

One million pages and five million different books are viewed on StoryGraph each day! 🤩

And because of things like our public Browse All Books and Reading Challenge Directory sections, millions of people can get value from the product and discover new books without needing an account! 😊

Since last time...

We surpassed our millionth user signup! 🎉

Screenshot from our stats dashboard of a small pane which features black text on a white background with a thin grey border. The text reads: Number of Users: 1,013,402.
13k more signups since we hit one million on June 26th!

Just over one year ago I started this newsletter as a way to stay accountable as a solo founder, asking my one hundred readers (there are almost five thousand of you now) as I embarked on building a beta app: Will people actually use it?

Well....

😌 😁

The day before we hit our millionth signup, I had cause to remember this tweet of mine from August 2019:

Screenshot of a tweet of mine from August 12 2019. The tweet reads: "Yesterday, I did a database migration alone and it was so nerve-wracking. And this was for a beta app that currently only has 5 users."
That's because we were doing a database upgrade!

Despite having a million more user accounts to worry about, what makes database maintenance work a lot less nerve-wracking? Having Rob Frelow as your co-founder and doing weeks of planning and preparation together. 🥰

Next two weeks

I hope the search dropdown has launched! There are quite a few bits and pieces to take care of to ensure that it works smoothly across all sorts of devices. 🤞🏾

Screenshot of the main search bar on StoryGraph having a dropdown of results as a user types input. The search bar has "the van" entered, and there's a dropdown of three results, the top two reading "The Vanishing Half" and then "The Vanishing Stair". Underneath each book title is its StoryGraph unique ID, and the top result is highlighted in StoryGraph's deep green/cyan colour.
Don't y'all worry. It's not going to look like this!
This is some real behind-the-scenes footage for ya.
😅😆

What I'm reading

I'm almost done with my first Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel, her debut, Purple Hibiscus, and my Up Next Suggestions pointed me in the direction of Homo Deus, by Yuval Noah Harari. His Sapiens is one of my all-time faves!
Screenshot of the top of my "Current reads" page on StoryGraph. There are two book panes, one on top of the other. The top one is Purple Hibiscus. There is a progress bar on the pane that is 85% filled up. The second one is Homo Deus. There is a progress bar on the pane that is 5% filled up. On the top right of the page is a grey button labelled "Reading Journal".

Have a great week,

Nadia
